We were attending a wedding in Antwerp, and Hotel Julien was on the list of recommendations from the wedding couple. We were very pleased that we chose this delightful and charming hotel for our 3 nights in town. The exterior is quite understated - it's almost difficult to find the first time you visit, but the exterior belies the elegance of the interior. This is a very old building which has been masterfully restored, and it is magnificent, with large doors, marble and glass, and 2 small interior courtyards. We chose a Julien Experience Suite with Breakfast Included, and we were completely satisfied with our space. European hotel rooms tend to be on the small side, and that's why I chose the suite, which gave us a bedroom with a King bed and a TV, and a large, airy living room with fireplace, sofa, desk and TV and ample space. The modern bathroom had a rainfall shower and a separate freestanding tub, and Catherine loved the heated marble floor. There was plenty of closet space, also. The ground floor offers a lounge room and an intimate bar, as well as the breakfast room. Breakfast was an excellent buffet, with cooked eggs available at no additional charge. The buffet offered fresh cut fruit, cold cuts, smoked salmon, cheeses, yogurt, breads and baked items, as well as cereals, and we felt as if we had many choices. The staff were pleasant and efficient, and the room is open and full of light. We had an issue with our transportation company when we were leaving (not the hotel's fault) and the woman working the front desk did an amazing job of getting the problem solved for us in record time, with a great result for us. She deserves a special shout-out for gettng us to the airport on time! One note: the elevator wasn't working when we visited, which was no big deal for us, but it could be an issue for a person with a disability, so make sure it's working before you visit if you have an issue. This is a wonderful hotel and we will absolutely stay here again the next time we visit Antwerp!

Room Tip: Choose a suite for the additional space at a minor price increase. Room 23 was delightful.

My wife and I experienced a perfect stay at Hotel Julien. It is located in the city centre but once you enter the hotel all is peace and quiet. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. There is a cosy bar and a nice breakfast was served. If you are into art you will definitely enjoy the artworks which are selected by a renowned Antwerp art gallery.

The Hotel Julien was an excellent choice for our long weekend in Antwerp. This is a very smart and stylish boutique hotel in a fantastic location close to the cathedral.

Our ‘Julien Dreamer’ room was lovely and beautifully decorated. As it overlooked an inner courtyard it was quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very smart with lovely Aesop cosmetics.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning. There was an excellent selection of cold items plus hot dishes that were cooked to order. No problem in getting a lovely de-caf latte to go with it!

On our first evening we had cocktails in the lounge which was a great, relaxing start to our visit.

The staff were excellent and were very helpful in providing the local information that we asked for.

This is an excellent hotel and we would have no hesitation in staying again if visiting Antwerp.

I choose to stay at this hotel because it is a very beautiful property. I don't have complaints about the property - the only complaint is the extremely arrogant and unprofessional manager Melissa who needs to learn how to do her job. If they keep having this person they won't have any customers soon. Her attitude and angriness do not match this property. This property is all about style and elegance while all she does is scream at customers, and employees and dressed quite unprofessionally. Her energy is just too negative. The owner of the hotel should be aware of this person. Also, some areas of the rooms need more attention, for example, they need to clean their fridges after the guests leave. My room fridge had some sort of yogurt spilled all over it. No pleasant. Also, they serve old food at breakfast. I saw the same meat and cheese slices served for 2 days in a row. Such a shame.

We booked a room for the second time at Hotel Julien and once again it has been a great experience. Very helpful staff, beautiful lounge/bar. I would definitely recommend starting your stay with a drink. We enjoyed the comfortable spacious room. Breakfast was served at the table and included a wide range of choices. Did I mention the fine art that can be found throughout the hotel? We will be back.

Had a wonderful afternoon tea.

My friend treated me to an wonderful afternoon tea here for my birthday. The ambience was calming and intimate, the staff were extremely amiable and the presentation of the tea offering was perfect. Moreover, there was an abundance of food and tea. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a break from sight seeing and a chance to unwind in chic surroundings. Plenty of photo opportunities also!

Beautifully designed hotel in the heart of the city. Worst check-in experience ever: left waiting while some other clients, not liking their room, decided whether to stick to their room or take ours and the receptionist explaining in French (that I speak, unknowingly to her) that our room was not that good. And actually she was right. Our ‘deluxe’ room was on the third floor with no elevator, in a fully booked hotel. No warning whatsoever in the days before from the hotel. If either of us had a walking impairment of any sort we couldn’t possibly have accessed the room. So brace yourself for a serious stairs climbing after paying more than €350 for your room.

the building itself is very nice, lots of marble and good furniture. The central patio area lets natural light into most of the building which makes the entire place seem fresh.

The room we stayed in was small but well equipped. Decent bed, nice big windows, good bathroom facilities.

It’s very central but on a side road so not loud at night or congested in the day when arriving/leaving.

Breakfast is alright but not enough options for vegans. That’s the only minute detraction.

I would recommend and stay again.

This was our 6th hotel stay in a 3 week vacation. Although all were very different the one thing they all had in common was a sense of making sure we had all the necessary tips and advice we needed to enjoy our stay. This was lacking at the Julien. It was a nice room, but the so called architect influenced room layout, (ie the toilet in a separate room) was like an trainee carpenter knocked it up over the weekend. Quirky and different for some, for me was over priced and over rated. (But definitely not a bad hotel) PS might have been nice to know they were repairing the roof above our room when we checked in.

We fell in love with Hotel Julien. Thank you so much for our wonderful stay!

We've stayed for two nights in an Experience Room. We've loved the space, huge bathtub and shower products by Aesop!

The breakfast with all the fresh products was very good too. We've used the Spa as well, which was very welcome after a long shopping/museum day.

Also a big +++: the cocktailbar where we ordered the best Champagne ever by the glass! We will make this our regular hotel when we visit Antwerp again. Loved everything! Thanks!

It depends on your definition of 'near'. The hotel is in the city center. It's 40 min walking to the Sportpaleis, or 15 min by car, or 15 min by public transport. Send my regards to Madonna.
