I've stayed here a couple of times when the prices have been good value. The hotel's well located on a nice canal, 5 minutes or so from the train station and near to shops and restaurants. The staff are very good - efficient and helpful. There is no lift but someone will carry your bag up if you need help... More

Quirky hotel with lots of character. Very friendly staff/owners, there is a great sense of history in the hotel and it is in a perfect location for sightseeing in the city. Only slight downside for me was that the mattress was not supportive enough

I stayed at De Doelen for 2 nights while working at the University of Leiden. It is extremely conveniently located just a couple of blocks away from some of the main academic buildings on the Rapenburg. Shops and restaurants are just around the corner. It was a quirky but charming experience. Fastest hotel check-in ever. I walked in, was recognized... More

We are in leiden for just two nights and staying at the De Deolen. Its a charming hotel right on the Rapenburg canal. There are a ton of resturants within walking distance, and the staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. No elevator, so they'll help you get your bags up the steep stairs, and the nice european breakfast is... More

Stayed on a one night business trip when my usual hotel was fully booked. Centrally located in a nice part of town. If you are not Dutch you will be transfixed by the canals, near by windmills and everyone whizzing by on their bikes. If you are Dutch I apologise for picking up on national stereotypes but you shouldn't have... More

I actually stayed here already several times for business purposes. The service is very nice and helpful, while the rooms on the ground and first floor are really cute, with much light and renovated - with modern bathrooms and furniture, you can quickly feel at home at this historical hotel. However, there's also a second floor and it is fair... More

Spent 3 days with a group of friends in this hotel. It was lovely as it is a converted 17th centaury merchant's house, so consequently is was old fashioned and modern at the same time. No soulless modern box like rooms here! It is incredibly central to the lovely town of Leiden with loads of pubs, canals, museums all within... More

Been to Leiden several times but never stayed overnight. I thought about going to one of the chain hotels but decided on a more boutique one. A grand looking old house but to be honest I was a little disappointed. Hugh great door leading to a corridor but no reception? Then a voice summonsed us round the corner. Very pleasant... More

Stayed at this hotel while in Holland celebrating Kings Day. Good location, hotel is in an old Patrician House but the entrance hall and breakfast room are quite dark and gloomy. Our room was tiny and oppressive, with a very small double bed. It was very noisy because of the people above and it looked out onto a yard behind... More

This is a very nice, clean hotel in the old part of Leiden, with very friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast in classic old dining room. Not fancy at all, but excellent value. Can walk (~10 minutes) to main Leiden train station.
