This was our second stay at the Grand Hotel Amrath. We needed on site parking, which was expensive at €67.50 per night. We like the location which is close to the central rail station, where you can also get trams and canal cruises. We did both of these - trams are easy and have an onboard kiosk towards the back where you can buy 1 hour or 24 hour tickets. Make sure you carefully tap in and out though otherwise your ticket becomes invalid. It is also only a short walk to Chinatown and the centre of the old town. We had a room on the fourth floor with a very comfortable superking bed. Some aspects of the room were a bit tired, such as the style of furniture. The decor is also a bit gloomy and dark. Other than the windows, the room does not reflect the historic and stylish nature of the public areas, which are very striking. There was a nespresso coffee machine and a mini bar. The bathroom was large with a bath and separate shower cubicle, the shower screen was a bit rickety and screeched when moved to close/open. We did not eat in the hotel nor use the bar on this occasion. Overall, the room standard is below modern five star standard in my opinion. Reception staff varied from a bit gruff to very helpful, the staff who parked and collected our car were very good.

Firstly the good things: Friendly staff. Very comfortable in bed. Nice bathroom Spacious room (229). Good view. The bad: Very poor signage (lifts very hard to find). Entrance steps (no handrail. If someone falls you will get sued!!) Four poster bed made getting in to and out of bed painful because of the hard frame. TV not visible completely as vertical post blocked view from bed. Very expensive breakfast (walk 200m and you get a good breakfast for far less). Doors (especially lifts) were extremely heavy. Overall, NOT impressed.

Stayed at the Amarth hotel for my girlfriends birthday weekend. The hotel was beautiful, probably the best hotel we have stayed in to date. I emailed the hotel prior to our stay asking for some flowers to be in the room and when we opened our door they went above and beyond as shown in the photos. The room was lovely, comfiest pillows we’ve ever put our heads on. The hotel also had a lovely pool and sauna that we took advantage of. The location was a short walk from the train station and just a bridge away from the main strip so an ideal location. Would 100% recommend this hotel and would defiantly stay here again.

This is my second visit to this hotel. The first time was great and we thought we would use it again purely for location and that we knew that we would enjoy the hotel. However, it really feels like the place has gone downhill… from someone with a hotel background I really don’t understand how this hotel is 5*. Just to list the issues we had: The front desk are rude, slow and just don’t really seem to care. Emailed prior to arrival requesting to upgrade which I was happy to pay for, this didn’t happen. We were allocated room 010. The room itself is fine, however is clearly next to a housekeeping office/laundry room. For hours on end all you can hear is a washing machine. This is also clearly a corridor that staff use quite frequently, so you can hear them talking in corridors at all times of day. The first time we stayed here we had to pay city tax (fine) there is now also a tourist tax, so altogether costs around €70 which was surprising - whether this is correct or a mistake made by the front desk who knows. I wont be returning, it’s a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location but the staff are not up to scratch in my opinion.

This was our first trip to Amsterdam and the hotel was perfect for day excursions leaving Centraal Station. It was easy to find from the station on our way in as well. We arrived very early and found our room was ready for us--much appreciated after a long overnight flight. We were able to walk about the city with ease from the location. Given it's location it was also relatively quiet from places just a block or so away. Breakfast was delicious and a wonderful start to the day. They have packages that include breakfast and I would recommend getting one. The staff was extremely accommodating and went out of their way to take care of us. We enjoyed the stay very much.

Decent hotel in a good location. Unfortunately this also comes with the trade off of having no car park. I left the car in the underground car park next to the hotel at a cost of around €20 per day. Rooms were tidy if slightly run down and beds were reasonably comfortable. My bathroom for example had multiple cracked and loose tiles where grout was completely missing. Something that wouldn’t be too difficult to repair and would make a difference to the room. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful whenever we needed assistance, directions or somewhere to leave our bags. Breakfast buffet is not recommended, it’s a basic “continental” spread consisting of meat and cheese, cereal toast etc… as a veggie there wasn’t a great deal on offer. I mostly had toast and scrambled eggs and a bit of granola. Due to the location the rooms tended to be a little noisy at night from the surrounding bars and restaurants.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights, me and a friend of mine, we had a good room with access to the pool and the wellness center. What I did not like is how the reception guy talked to us the first time we came in to do the check in. (very rude person) Also, the first evening we went out and we came back, we found out that some stuffs were missing (2 pairs of airpods pro) and the back door of the room was half open. We talked to the reception guy and he had no reaction other than taking our phone numbers. If I have to do it again, I would stay in an another hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for my birthday with my partner and can honesty say it was amazing. Merphio made our stay incredible and he’s the reason it’s 5*. From opening up the pool for us, to champagne on my birthday. It was everything I could have wished for and more! An amazing location and just the most beautiful rooms. I will definitely be visiting again!

this was the baddest experience.. the concierge was making “discriminating” jokes and the so called manager (lady) was talking while she was eating and his mouth was full.. not worth the stay.. i dont know what has been changed in two years in this hotel..

The FO manager was very rude and disrespecting. Idid expect an other behaviour for a 5 star expensive hotel. I was here for 3 nights. The lady told us to leave and that we could go to a ‘cheaper’ place that fits in our budget if we were not happy. Her name was Bienva Garcia, please beware of this lady!
