Requested the top floor and it was brilliant being able to look out over Amsterdam. Hotel is pretty cool with around 30 beers on draft which are amazing. Rooms are small, would recommend to a couple or group of friends who just want a central hotel with a good bar and aren't that bothered about having Egyptian silk sheets..

The Old Nickel Amsterdam hotel and bar is a bad joke, it's a tourist trap. Since 1,5 years they try to fetch new customers by mis-using the MeetsUp community publishing so-named live events. But when you arrive there in order to listen to a whatever live band there is nothing but drunken and drugged freaks close to the red light... More

Stayed with a friend in June 2016 and had a great time. Our room was newly decorated, modern and very clean. Location is great, very central, 10 minutes walk to dam square, 5 minutes walk to central station and red light district just around the corner. The noise at night that people have been complaining about in the reviews didn't... More

Stayed there with my friend in June 2016 and had amazing time. The hotel is very central and everything is in walking distance and easy to get around. Check in was easy and quick, our room was perfect for us. We loved the bar and the staff there. Would recommend to everyone!

I read some mixed reviews about this place but I thought it was fine considering the price and location, which at the time was much cheaper comparatively. I booked a single room which was very small but had its own bathroom. The room appeared to have been recently renovated and was very clean and modern. Due to its location (red... More

Pros: Location of Hotel is excellent. It is in the heart of Central Amsterdam surrounded with all the bars, coffee shops & restaurants. Red light district just round the corner and all attractions within walking distance. Dam Square only 10 minutes away on foot. Amsterdam Centraal Station only 5 minutes walk away, across a large square and bridge, so very... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
