Do not except more than a good bed to sleep in. The staff is friendly and the location is great, still, the rooms are REALLY small and the claustrophobic stairs don't help. If you are looking for a place to simply sleep, I truly recommend it. Close to the red light district and some coffee shops.

We've been to Amsterdam a few times but decided to try Hotel Ben on our last visit. I must firstly say, the location is great, very central. The hotel does have cats, but we loved this so no problem for us. The rooms are very basic, again, for the price we paid, we were not too bothered. However, our first... More

I explained that my 7 year old dog has become sick needs 24hr care and I cannot make my trip. The manager told me to cancel my reservation on booking.com before deciding on a refund, which I did.I was then told I would be charged full price. The manager can now re-book the room getting double the money.Needless to say,I am very unhappy.Thanks... Stayed here on my first trip to Amsterdam, the location is perfect as you are seconds away from all the bars, restaurants and red light district. You get what you pay for, the rooms are basic but clean and it isn't overly noisy. Reception staff are friendly and helpful and I will definitely be staying here again when I return!

Great location very central, room was average cleanliness, friendly helpful staff. Didn't find it that noisy and would stay again if in a budget and wanted a cheap weekend away in Amsterdam. Beds were ok, shower fine. Excellent communication when booking

Me and my boyfriend were visiting Amsterdam on a budget so this place was perfect for us - cheap but in a central location. It's definitely not the most clean comfortable hotel but you get what you pay for! Very steep steps like most of the old buildings in this area so be careful! Also there is no lift -... More

Cracking stay. All u need on a stag in Amsterdam is a decent bed and a clean shower n toilet let's be honest! No hassle at all from staff, very helpful. Lots of stairs to climb but in a perfect location in the city. Very cheap, perfect for my stag. Many thanks

So, if you're looking for a hotel that is cheap, you don't care about cleanliness or comfort and you just wanna get messed up in Amsterdam for cheap then this is the place for you but if you're over 21 and have any sense of style, class or wanting to be comfortable.... Stay WELL away Firstly the shower had 3... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
