You get what you pay for, and our group wished we had perhaps picked a larger ship and a little more expensive, luxurious vessel. The operation appears being run on a shoestring. The staff were very hard working and helpful. They were excellent sailors, and the trip was smooth. The vessel itself was old (built in 1932), small and not... More

The Gandalf is a small barge built in 1932 and has undergone some modest modifications to make it into a "ship hotel" for the "off season" and a "Barge & Bike" touring barge during late April to early October. The cabins are small as in all barges but they are comfortable with the exception of the bathrooms which are 2.5... More

Staying at the Hotelschip Gandalf is a great experience for everyone. The hosts make you feel at home and welcome and the cabins are basic but very clean and tidy. You are within a 10 to 15 minutes walk from all the major attractions and sights. Over all I would definitely recommend here, and will stay again.

I don't feel the movements of the ship so there was no issue with motion sickness. However the room was super small and the shower was clogged so my room got flooded. The woman was nice and helped me unclog the shower. Uncomfortable bed.

I took the kids to Amsterdam and this little find offered an escape from the usual extortionate City hotel prices. We stayed two nights. The cabins are pretty basic but have en-suites and are clean and cosy. Functional, not luxurious, but what do expect at the price? The breakfast is good and plentiful and the location of the mooring is... More

this is an absolutely lovely place to stay whilst in amsterdam. the couple who run it are so beautiful, it is a barge so the accommodation is pretty basic but little touches like great reading lights and hot water make it ok. the breakfast is sumtuous , thers is a selection of teas which can be drunk all day if... We stayed for one night during our stop over in Amsterdam. This is not the top end of comfort, and we found the staff a bit take it or leave it. That may have been a language barrier. However, our cabin was good, or beds were clean and comfortable, shower and toilet fine and breakfast was good, with a good... More

I can really recommend this place, the location is perfect and the staff are absolutely wonderful. The rooms (or maybe cabins is the right word for rooms on a boat?) may be a bit small, but they are warm and cosy and very clean. Very good value for money.

We've spent two nights in this nice floating hotel. It is quite close to Amsterdam Centraal railways station and center town is at walking distance (the area is well served by public transport too). The relation quality / price is excellent. A friendly atmosphere and a simple (but sufficient) breakfast complete the picture. The cabin was clean and spartan: il... More
