The Flying Pancake is a cute B&B in Amsterdam. The owner Claudia was very helpful. She allowed us to store our luggage until checkin as our cruise had got in early. The room was comfortable for two people. If climbing stairs is a problem I would not recommend the Flying Pancake. Also if the weather is hot be prepared as this is a traditional Amsterdam apartment with no AC. It is located within walking distance to the center of Amsterdam, to the Passenger Terminal for cruises. We rented bikes and were able to secure them across the street from the apartment.

Hi Innkeeper C. We are back home and I am taking my time to write you a personal and detailed feedback. We spent one week in your BnB and so we got a seven-day-impression of you and your place you rent to tourists. The room is well located and it was nice to have more space than in a usual hotel room. Breakfast was nicely prepared, big and tasty – but getting boring after seven days (the few alternatives one could chosen i.e. white bread, Kellogg’s cereal, packed sweets) where not an option for me. My kid’s gluten free breakfast had more variety, which we appreciated. Some things though occurred during our stay, which were or annoying to us, others disturbing or even fresh and disrespectful. • Not having milk one morning; many lights in the bedroom and bathroom not working through our whole 7-day-stay; not having a second hand towel for the first day; smell from the shower drain which was only more or less solved after the first day – annoying. • Having to eat breakfast on a dirty (and worn – or is this so called ‘shabby-chic’?!) table (no cloth to clean it ourselves); having to sleep on a worn mattress and in stained sheets; getting breakfast only at 9 o’clock the day we left although you knew from me that we wanted to leave your house at 9:30 (other days the breakfast was in front of the BnB door at 8:30, although I had written 9 o’clock); steam bath not working the first two days and giving us the impression that we were not able to make it work, but the actual reason was that the main switch wasn’t on; stained pillows on the sofa; smelly bath and hand towels – disturbing or even very disturbing. • Getting back our used hand towels I had put on the soaking wet doormat on the shower floor; writing me ‘it is what it is, usually no problem’ on my request to check the shower door that doesn’t close well and so the doormat and floor get very wet; getting face cloths with rust stains; having to listen to the beat of your music until 10 or even 11 p.m. on various evenings (you are surely well aware that your house is not soundproof and the guests hear it in the BnB room above); not offering us a hand bringing down our luggage the day we left which led to me almost falling down the stairs pushed by the heavy suitcase (I hurt my arm – bruised strongly – your comment was: all is ok, as it isn’t bleeding – fresh or disrespectful. We got the impression that you have this BnB mostly (only?) for the money, not because you enjoy being a good host. Legitimate, but a pity. You made a big renovation (about 12-15 years ago?) to have the two BnB rooms, but you are not taking care of the place, also a pity. The BnB and especially your service just isn’t good enough and too expensive for what it is. We can’t imagine how you got all those tripadvisor awards. It is what it is… – ?!?! Regards D.H.

We were there our way to France and it was a great stop over. Really nice and helpful host. And in our room a barista machine that made really nice coffee to our little basket of breakfast that was brought to us every morning - such a treat. Would be nice that windows could open on both sides to make a breeze - it was a little warm but we got by. All in all a very nice stay.

Great location for walking to highlights, open market, tram and huge array of restaurants /cafes/shopping. Great space and We stayed on top floor room Cook’s Suite (but we thought we booked the Captain’s suite). 3 flights of stairs, one of which was quite tight. Bed is on loft area so go to bathroom before you go to bed but bed was comfortable. No AC which was fine for us as it had cooled off. Very clean and wonderful breakfast brought to your door. Claudia was very helpful and accommodating.
