Nice B&B in quiet, safe neighborhood. There are 2 rooms available - up steep narrow steps (believe this is pretty typical for Amsterdam). Very clean, large rooms-really was like an apartment. Lovely breakfast every morning that is delivered to your door. Internet is spotty. Just 2 blocks to a Artis zoo tram stop (#9 tram line) which was so convenient.... More

I fully understand why Claudia gets the ratings she does. The Flying Pancake deserves the highest rating possible. It is in a great location, being an easy walk to everything or a quick tram ride. We stayed in the Captains room and it was huge and extremely well appointed. Claudia is a wonderful hostess, giving us great tips and offering... More

We stayed for two days. They are really flexible with their costumers, attentive and friendly. I stayed in the Cook's room and I have to say that it's better than in the photos. Huge bed, Big toilet and a lot of stuff available to feel like at home (dvd's, music, books, fire place) We just loved it. It's true that... More

We stayed here for 2 nights on the recommendation of Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed! The rooms were comfortable, clean, and in a centuries old (1700s I think) beautiful building. The staircases are VERY narrow and winding but were really fun to navigate. Breakfast was fresh and delivered in a cute wicker basket. My gluten intolerance was accommodated... More

The wheat used in Europe is different from the N.A. Wheat. We ate it and suffered no celiac symptoms ~ happy to report So, please enjoy the pancakes, croissants, bagels, with, of course, the cheese. Cheeses available in the city are processed and cured "in house"

Booked both rooms for half term 2 day break with the in-laws....having not stayed in Amsterdam before the location was slightly further out than we would have liked but the excellent tram links and the three day tram / train pass for 25 euro each eased this issue....the rooms were excellent very spacious & clean. Only negative was our 17... More

Really was a home from home. We were very comfortable, and everything, and more, was provided. Claudia was exceptionally helpful. Location was very convenient for central Amsterdam and also near trams, shops, cafes etc.

Claudia was very welcoming upon arrival, showing us around the room and explaining how things worked. She also advised us on the best places to eat in the neighborhood which was very helpful. The room itself (Captain's suite) was very spacious for two people, with excellent facilities including 2 coffee machines, a steam shower, a wide selection of tea, a... More

We occupied both suites. So much space and attention to detail. Every need was thought of from shower accessories to coffee machines and snacks, as well as a selection of wines to purchase at very reasonable prices. Rachel welcomed us and instantly we were made to feel at home. The location is good and within walking distance to many attractions... More

A big thank you to Claudia for her making us feel so welcome and for providing such wonderful accommodation and the helpful tips on where to eat and go for my morning runs! Was a little dubious about visiting Amsterdam due to the stereo types but we were pleasantly surprised. It's a wonderful City and 4 days did not seem... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
