Super close to the metro stop and many tourist restaurants. Not our favorite Amsterdam neighborhood, but still a good choice. Somewhat clean, kind of small, and steep stairs. You get what you pay for. It is close to central Amsterdam, red light district, and the train station. It's a very urban/dense neighborhood. The owners will give you plenty of advice... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in the Rembrandt room overlooking a canal. Everything in the mini fridge was included! We loved the chef, sad we didn't catch his name before we left. Breakfast was made to order and a great start to the day.

My husband & I stayed in this charming hotel for 3 nights last week. The owners were very welcoming and did everything possible to make our visit so enjoyable. Our room was very spacious and had everything you could want. It overlooked a canal and was kept spotless during our stay. The breakfast was delicious and we would have no... More

This is a truly fantastic little hotel, with lovely personal touches everywhere. Just inside the Red Light District, it's a short walk to wherever you might want to go in the innercity. The breakfast is amazing! Bacon, eggs, fresh bread, fantastic Dutch cheese, preserves, etc. Everything is fantastic quality. There is also a little bar fridge in the room with... More

I normally stay at the Park Plaza opposite Central Station, due to its location and it feels safe and secure, but this trip we decided on something different. I looked for a hotel in Nieuwmarkt as it's my favourite area of Amsterdam. From there I then picked Misc as it had great reviews and I made the right choice. Check... More

The hotel is tucked away right next to the red-light district, within easy walking distance to museums. The owners are the most charming people and very helpful with advice, booking tickets and anything else you might need. The rooms are beautiful, quiet and clean. Breakfast is excellent and plentiful, and they have great coffee! We went with our children and... More

The hotel is cosy and homely with great interiour, the couple owning and running the place relaxed and friendly. Everytime we stopped for a chat we were offered coffee or soda free of charge, the minibar was also free (Beer, sodas, juices and snacks). A small bottle of Prosecco and chocolate was presented in the room upon checkin, a very... More

Our stay here was a delight. The room was enchanting (although as we were at the top of the house we had to negotiate quite a steep winding staircase) the hotel is in a great location and Rachel and Pepijn were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful hosts (who know a great deal about cocktails...). They did everything they could to... More

Rooms are very nice, small but well furnished and with a lovely view of the canal. The bath is nicely split, toilet on one side and sink/shower on the other. Very centrally located just off the Red Light district - a bit of noise but the owners have thoughtfully provided a white noise machine to help and it does make... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
