At the risk of never getting a room at the best B & B in Amsterdam again, we will let you in on this secret. Boogaard's has it all - great location, beautifully presented rooms, brilliant breakfasts, excellent value for money, and Peter, an amazing host, who is a: lovely singer, fabulous cook, raconteur, excellent tour guide, social critic, smart... Well, its all been said, but I'll say it again. This place is fantastic! We stayed for 3 nights in June 08. Firstly Peter is an excellent host and really deserves the praise given in other reviews. He made us feel really welcome, provides lots of advice and information and cooks an excellent breakfast too. The place itself is beautiful... More

Reviewers of Peter Boogaard's B&B have raved about his place and I echo them. The ground floor has an excellent kitchen where Peter serves his breakfast creations. One floor up is an apartment with a living room, kitchen and two bedrooms. Peter plans to rent this as a complete unit to those who want to cook on their own as... More

We first stayed with Peter Boogaard in June of 2007 on our daughter's recomendation and we certainly weren't disapointed. In May our whole family stayed at Boogaard's again while in Amsterdam for our daughter's wedding. Peter has moved to a beautiful, old and elegantly decorated house, in a very picturesque area, close to canals and to the Central Station. Now... More

My wife and I have now stayed at 37 B&Bs in our travelling career and this may be the best of the bunch. Peter is so kind and accommodating and he runs an excellent B&B. The house is charming and beautifully decorated (especially if you like pugs!). The location is great - we walked to all the sites without taking... More

Great place. Peter runs an excellent B&B right in the heart of Amsterdam and an easy walk from the station (even with several suitcases and we had plenty of those). The stairs are quite steep but he's happy to help with your bags, and this is common to most B&Bs in Amsterdam. In between the bedroom's there's a common living... More

My husband and I just returned from a two night stay at Boogaard's Bed and Breakfast following a transatlantic cruise. We had booked it based on the fabulous reviews on Trip Advisor. From the reviews, we were expecting it to be wonderful, and we were not disappointed in the least. Location, location, location! We were in a beautiful neighborhood, yet... More

We really can't say enough good things about Boogaard's. This was our fourth time staying with Peter, and we booked the whole place out for our family to stay during our wedding in Amsterdam. He was so good to us, making everything perfect for the stay, offering advice, making everyone feel at home, and even looking after the crazy mother-in-law!... More

Hey Peter!! My girlfriend and I stayed here last Sept and I don't ever write reviews but I finally remembered to do so because Boogaard's really is that wonderful! We were all over Europe for a month and half and nothing even came close the personal attention and comfort of this fantastic B&B. If you stay anywhere else while in... More

My husband and I just returned from a 2 week trip to Europe and our 1st stop was Amsterdam. We've stayed at many B&Bs in Europe and the US and Boogaard's B&B is fabulous. It is because Peter is so welcoming, you feel like you're staying at a long lost relative's home...a relative you really like! The rooms are wonderfully... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
