I stayed at Boogaard's for 4 days around Thanksgiving time. Peter, the proprietor and host (and truly a great host he was), was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms are quiet, very comfortable and charmingly decorated. Breakfasts (unlike a lot of places were you basically get the same thing each morning) were varied each morning, huge and delectable. Peter makes...

This was my first trip to Amsterdam. As a Platinum level member with Holiday inns’ frequent travel program I can be picky. Simply put this B&B was a great find loaded with Peters personal touch. Truly Peter strives to exceed expectations in Location, inn personality, assistance and cleanliness. I would recommend this Inn for a memorable visit to Amsterdam and...

This b+b is around a 8 min walk from Central station and is situated on a very quiet side road near the canal. We stayed in the pug room which faced the back of the property and very quiet. Peter is a charming friendly host and is also a fantastic cook - we had pancakes with all the toppings and...

My wife and I stayed in Boogards for two nights last weekend. Forget the fancy over priced hotels and stay here, it is just great. The B&B is a fully refurbished typical Amsterdam house over a number of levels, you really feel like a local staying here. We stayed in a double room on the second floor which had a...

Our family of 4 stayed at this property for 3 nights in June, 2008. Everything about our stay was great -- the 2 rooms on the 3rd floor, the delicious breakfasts, the hospitality shown by Peter and his staff, the location, and the computer/internet availability and huge selection of DVD's which were especially appreciated by our teenage son who was...

We spent 8 nights at Boogaard's for our honeymoon this month. Peter Boogaards B&B is the best place we have ever stayed at in all of our travels. Exceptional food and service balanced perfectly with genuine hospitality and a sincere appreciation for his guests. By the end of our stay it truly felt like we were staying at Uncle Peters...

After reading other reviews for Boogaard's Bed and Breakfast, we contacted Peter via his website. There was availability for our party of four. He offered us a first floor (actually one flight up in Europe!) of two bedrooms, each with ensuite bath and a living/dining/kitchen. The price included breakfast, and we found out after arrival, laundry service! His home/b&b is...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
