Before we ever arrived at Boogaard's we felt welcome and at home. They were always so helpful with any questions. Wilma was in charge while we were there and she was not only a kind person, but very efficient and a real gem. Our room (Pug) was clean, comfortable and very inviting. In the mornings, delicious breakfast nibbles and drinks... More

We stayed at Boogaard's because of the very good reviews on tripadvisor. Most of the good comments are accurate, but I'd like to add a little bit. We stayed on the second floor, which was a bit of a problem. The staircases are very steep and the steps are narrow. We navigated them slowly, but I could see anyone older... More

We arrived at nine am and the owner offered us water and a map, along with helping us navigate the city. We were able to drop off our luggage and return later when the room was ready for us. So nice not to have to drag those around! Fresh fruit and snacks and drinks were provided daily. Owner was very... More

We had a very short stay at Boogaards, one night only because of a flight cancelation. Too bad for us! Boogaards is just the best place possible to stay in Amsterdam. We were on the third floor in a beautiful room, with very comfortable bed & a luxurious bathroom (complete with heated mirrors). Best of all was a very smart, kind... More

We stayed at Boogaard's for 4 nights and would recommend it to everyone! We stayed in the 'Dalmatian room' on the top floor. The room was very spacious, clean and had everything we needed. This room also came with its own private balcony/roof terrace, there is also another roof terrace available to all guests. The bed was extremely comfortable and... More

The location is excellent, it’s in a quiet street and close to everything. The room was excellent and very comfortable. Peter provided great insight and suggestions on navigating the city during our stay. He even suggested a free app with a map, points of interest, GPS functionality and worked while not connected to a carrier network. We really enjoyed our... More

Great location and close to many places of interest. Although there were breakfast items in the fridge, they were not as great quality or variety. Room was very clean and comfortable. Hosts are very nice and informative.

Yes Location - superb, but the welcoming element at the end of a day in Amsterdam was luxuriating in the knowledge of where you would end up - Boogaard's. I can say that even high end Hotel experiences do not match the warmth of the Owners' attention to create atmosphere, through splendid touches, the most comfortable beds and the simple... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
