Good hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Cool bar with plenty of places to sit and relax. The local area is also good because of trendy local restaurants - not packed with tourists - nice local shops in the immediate area. I enjoyed the hotel restaurant too.

Yes it is trendily dark, and quite imposing, but on a recent trip with my 4 young daughters we were treated wonderfully well by the staff at The College; staying at smart hotels with young children can be nerve-wracking but we have learnt that it is the attitude of the staff that makes a hotel family friendly, not access to... We stayed at the College during February half term with 2 children (8 years and nearly 2). Prior to visiting we asked lots of questions about child friendliness and all were answered well and remarkably quickly. As others have said, the hotel is a little on the dark side but I guess that is to add ambiance! However, we could... More

The College hotel is a quite nice and very stylish hotel a bit out of the city centre. Our room was small, but all over okay. It could have been better cleaned (bathroom, walls, ...)! Staff is very friendly but you have to take care of yourself! Sitting in the bar it was nothing unusual that the waitress throwed a... More

This hotel is beautiful and well-appointed but most impressive were the staff who were absolutely fantastic throughout our stay. Dinner in the restaurant far exceeded our expectations and the bar is a great place to enjoy an aperitif or after-dinner cocktail. Our room was spacious, stylish and spotlessly clean and the whole hotel just oozes character. We were slightly apprehensive... More

If you are looking for a romantic hotel, with beautiful rooms, special lights, an old-fashion atmosphere, a very gentle staff, not far away from the city centre but very close to the museum area, the College Hotel is the right place. The façade of this ancient building is very nice, as well as the lights in the entrance, the fire... More

The College Hotel is attached to the Amsterdam hotel management training college and is used by the students to learn the trade as well as providing a great environment. The rooms are dark with a chocolate theme and the lights in the rooms seem to have a mind of their own. Just keep pressing until something happens that you like.... More

Being a massive fan of Mr and Mrs Smith boutique hotels I was excited to see a reasonably priced one in Amsterdam. I loved the style of the hotel and that is used to be an old school, the rooms looked a perfect size! On arrival I was not disappointed, the outside was illuminated in a purple light and I... More

Excellent hotel experience. Great atmosphere. Good service. Only negative comments: - A bit far from the city center (20mn by tram from central train station) - Noisy rooms (no double windows and trams can be heard passing in front of the hotel late in the evening and early in the morning).

Goregous rooms and service very attentive. Again this hotel is a training hotel where things need to be improved, as put 2 glasses if champagne when I have booked a room with champagen, make sure there are no dirty glasses inside. Breakfast is AMAZING.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
