Detailed Reviews
This hotel was tucked away behind the busy roads yet a very close <5min walk to the Leidseplein. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, we had a warm welcome and no language barrier as their English was perfect. Our room was very clean and even though it was a little small it was all we needed. The shower had excellent power and there was some hair and body wash as well as hand soap available. There was a lovely garden that we could use to drink coffees and smoke as the hotel is strictly non smoking. Checkout was very smooth and they organised a taxi to the airport for us costing €37.50 and were picked up from reception. Overall it was an excellent stay and I will look for available rooms here first next time I visit.

Hotel Alexander is very convenient for sightseeing Amsterdam and benefits from an attractive, peaceful location. However, the rooms are very small and it is obvious that the Hotel in general is in need of refurbishment. In fact , part of this was taking place during our stay. Having said that, the staff were extremely accommodating and a very good breakfast is reasonably priced at 10 euro. The Hotel is also kept to very clean standard. We feel that 3 stars is justified at the present time but with a successful upgrade this Hotel has enormous potential.

The Hotel has the ideal location if you want to stay within walking distance to the city center and it's very close to Vondelpark.
The staff was very nice and available to answer our questions. They also asked us the time we wanted for breakfast, so that they'd have warm bread for us.
You can park in the hotel's street if you find a spot, although it's a bit expensive (as expected), so we were advised to park in P+R of the Olympic Stadium (it was 3eur from Saturday 10h to Monday 13h and then there is the tram that takes you directly to the center).
We also rented bikes in the hotel and, at the reception, you have free coffee/tea/hot chocolate :)

Good location in a side street so a little quieter but also central to everything. Right by leidseplein so lots of places to eat too.
Hotel is nice. Really comfy beds, nice back garden for guests to enjoy, free coffee machine in lobby. Didn't have the breakfast but looked nice and was good value compared to breakfast in the local cafes.
Room included the following which I couldn't find online before hand:
- Wall mounted fan (it was 30 degrees when we were there!)
- Hair dryer
- shower gel/body wash in shower

The fantastic staff graciously accommodated all our needs. My young daughter and I were traveling together and were able to book the small cottage in the back of the property which felt like a little home away from home. The room had everything we needed and was warm, quiet, and comfortable.
Breakfasts in the morning were simple but plentiful and satisfying. The eating environment was cozy in the common area with comfortable seating and big windows letting in lots of light. We all got to watch a small hailstorm one morning that was delightful and unexpected.
The hotel is in the perfect location to see the museums, walk along the canals, visit the parks, and sample the diverse food options available in Amsterdam. We walked everywhere however public transportation is only one block away.
The kind, helpful, and friendly staff were phenomenal and it was the highlight of our mornings to chat with them and share our curiosities and questions about Amsterdam.

Nice hotel with nice decoration in the room. The hotel is located near the city centre (it's a 15-20min walk to Dam) in a quiet area and the prices are very affordable. It's also very close to the museum kwartier (5 min. walk to van Gogh museum). Staff is also cool and helpful.

We arrived at the hotel and first impression was good, when we checked in we have been set up in two rooms in the garden (they are two external containers sold as family rooms). The rooms were not clean (empty bottles and dust under our beds, spots in the bathroom), and we went to the check in clerk to ask her to clean them (we were a bit annoyed I admit it but nobody mentioned us that we needed to stay with our children in the garden in a small smelly and bad cabin, I booked and received confirmations for two rooms IN the hotel). The reception girl told me that the hotel manager was willing to pay us back the entire sum if we were unsatisfied with our accommodations and how clean they were. VERY strange reaction. I got really upset, because I just asked to have two clean rooms not to change hotel. It was one of the busiest long week end in May and it was really not possible to find another hotel anyway. We booked the rooms in February 2022. We started to have the feeling that the Hotel Manager wanted us outside and he just wanted to resell the two cabins at a higher prices since now it was possible, being Amsterdam 99% sold out. The same day we came back after dinner at 23.10 and the electricity and light were not functioning. Our childrens needed to go to bed and we called the number outside the hotel (check in is not 24/h), after a discussion and a long wait a guy arrived and we had a bad discussion. It ends up he was the hotel manager and he wanted us out at midnight, of course it was not possible with our kids. Long story short, the day after he threw us out of the hotel and he kept our money for the entire staying. Booking did not defend us at all... we still miss the money for the additional two nights that we paid in advance.
We had to find another hotel (we spent hours looking for hotels) which were overpriced (busy week end and short notice). The hotel manager resold the rooms (we saw on Booking the new ad and later that it was again sold out) at 2x/3x the original price. The worst hotel experience in my life. The hotel manager will say that we threatened him and that we were aggressive with him (he even spent hour putting together a 2 minutes video of the one hour long discussion with only our side shouting...), I just would like to mention that we are two families with three kids, which have never had any problems anywhere.
Booking has been VERY VERY bad in all this.

Dear Guiseppe, We highly value our guests experience and find it unfortunate that you were not satisfied with our garden rooms. While the cleanliness could indeed have been attended with more care on the day of your arrival; we can guarantee that we did everything possible to improve your experience by undertaking immediate action and fix everything that you were able to bring up. Like you mentioned, your visit was in a high demand period; which automatically means that we did not have other rooms to offer as alternative. Rooms in our private garden are generally considered to be more exclusive due to the open space, privacy and speciousness (especially for families with kids) however, we can understand that they may not be fit for everyone. Being realistic and after having tried everything within our power to turn your initial encounter with the room into a positive experience, we were left with our last resort; which is to offer you the option to receive a full refund. This would give you the opportunity to find a better value stay somewhere else. Let it be clear that this was after receiving constant passive aggressive behaviour, intimidating the front desk and demanding a discount/ free night which ultimately would still not change your room or its location. Regardless of how unsatisfied you were at the time; your behaviour towards our team kept escalating and went far beyond acceptable. Removing an individual for inappropriate behaviour is debatable and a choice of one person. However, removing two full families with children is clearly an act of necessity, enforcement by the local police. Disturbance of the public order (to 70 other hotel guests), vandalizing property, making personal threats are just a few of the things that you got reported for. You could have also been arrested if charges were being pressed and face larger consequences in the process. We may not be the perfect hotel, but will always reach far to ensure our guests will still have a pleasant stay. However, as soon as we notice inappropriate behaviour; we will act out of the safety of our team members and other hotel guest without any doubt. Treat people and businesses the way you would like to be treated.

Great location. Quiet street. Walk everywhere. Free coffee etc and a back patio/garden to chill. Good vibes at the front desk. Room was OK with big bathroom for an old city hotel.
The one thing? A disagreement as to whether the bites we got were from mosquitoes or bed bugs. Hotel did a check of the room and discovered nothing but a few mosquitoes, our bodies begged to differ and we know the difference. To be safe we "sterilized" everything we brought in to the room (including ourselves) post departure at our expense and inconvenience, Other than the inconvenience, we really liked the place.....

Very friendly staff, clean rooms and good breakfast! Everything was freshly cooked and very delicious. In my opinion you get a lot for your money, it’s worth it! The rooms may be a little bit small but therefore they’re comfortable and clean. If you compare it to pictures of other Hotels in Amsterdam that are at the same price range the room quality looks much better here. The location of the Hotel is quite central, we explored everything on foot. We can definitely recommend!

We just returned from a three night stay at this hotel as a group of three. We arrived and were promptly checked in (please be aware that you will be charged a 5% fee if you wish to pay with American Express). Our room was in the basement and was modern and very tastefully decorated. We were on the whole very happy with the room and the only negative points I could make was that the inside of the fan was very dusty and there was as a slightly stale odour in the room. Most likely usurp because it was in the basement and an old building. The location is perfect for the centre however, it is a stone’s throw away from the Leidseplein tram stop and 10/15 minutes walk away from most tourist attractions. I would definitely stay again.
