Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

I booked CoHo suites for my boyfriend and I as it was my first trip to Amsterdam and we both decided we wanted a little more space than what a hotel room could give us. There are 2 suites in the apartment, one is at the front on the road and the second is out the back. We were given the second suite when we stayed. Decor was very lovely, everything was clean and spotless and the furniture was very stylish. The apartment was in a fantastic location, only 15/20 walk into Dam Square and Diana was very helpful upon arrival. The first issue we encountered was the bath, it was covered in scratches and marks like something had been stored in there or perhaps kids toys had scratched it. It was a lovely bathroom so a shame this finish spoilt the feel of the bathroom. There was also a problem with the beds. The apartment is advertised as a luxury queen bed but in fact it is 2 singles pushed together with one mattress. Unfortunately this caused a ridge to run down the centre of the bed meaning you were forced to sleep on your own side (not ideal for couples getaway) and also there was not one duvet to share - there was 2 single duvets, both different togs so one was VERY thick and heavy whereas the other wasn’t. It felt odd to be sleeping under a different duvet to your other half! Similar to other reviewers the main issue we struggled with was the noise from upstairs. Diana the host advised us when we’d got there that she lived upstairs but the noise was not mentioned. We could hear every footstep, taps running all throughout the evening and then it began again at 7am with a child running up and down and up and down. I appreciate it’s a family home upstairs but didn’t seem like much consideration is taken for guests staying below and in addition to this there was drilling from very early on also. Due to all of this we had a very bad nights sleep and with this being my first time in Amsterdam and wanting it to be special we raised this with Diana. A compromise was met that we would only pay 50% of our bill and we left to find a hotel. For the money we were paying (over £100 a night) we didn’t want to be woken up at 7am each morning whilst on holiday! As mentioned before, the apartments are styled beautifully and located in a great part of town however the noise and the bed sadly spoilt this for us. We are grateful though to Diana for coming to a compromise on the bill.

We stayed in a large comfortable room, with kitchenette and bath. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the location was very nice. The only down side was that the room is in the basement, and the only window opened onto a tiny courtyard, so the room was dark. The other basement room has a window on the street and is brighter. Diana was very helpful with suggestions for transport and eating.

The pretty ridiculous early morning drilling wasn't to be desired... If we were staying longer than 2 days we would have changed accommodation. I'm sure the drilling itself was a one-off (although other reviews seem to have experienced this too, wish i'd seen them prior!) but the floor above the apartment is where the apartment owners resided and the ceiling of the apartment is super thin. Either way, it was extremely noisy in the morning and we could hear children running around early hours too so it was literally like sleeping under a bowling alley. Having to find a cash machine to pay cash on arrival was a pain too. Definitely wouldn't stay there again and I travel to Amsterdam 2/3 times a year for work. A real shame, as the area although quieter was decent.

Dear Richard, Sorry to hear about your experience. Would have loved to hear this feedback while you where still in the apartment so we could have done something about it.

Our week in Amsterdam was really nice as usual. But this time we booked at CoHo apartment and it was a real pleasure. Very beautiful and peaceful place. Perfect location. You can go everywhere by walk. Lots of shopping and good restaurants. Thanks to Diana.
