Good location if you want the madness of the red light district. Urinal right out front on the street. Tiny room, and I mean very tiny. Not too clean. Stairs are ridiculous. Friendly staff. Don't expect too much.

When I arrived I was disappointed to be in the red light district. Perhaps I should have checked the map first. Amsterdam is famous for this area though so it's not as sleazy as it might be in other countries. After climbing the incredibly steep stairs you take your life in your hands. It'd be great to defend from invaders...

If you are an inebriated youngster or a fan of filthy walls, you will love sharing a single toilet and shower with twelve people. The staff here are kind and helpful, as opposed to the "mideval stairs" which are cruel and inhospitable. Just don't stay here if you are older than 22.

Didn't stay here, but drank here in the night. Bar lady was very good craic and the prices for drink were very reasonable for Amsterdam. Centrally placed in Red light district. Good place for a hot spot!

Only the cockroaches will be more stoned than you! No folks just kidding.Just when you expect to see one you don't because they aren't there. This establishment has been going strong for at least 45 years which happens to have been about when I stayed there the first time. It's located smack dab in the middle of the Jordaan Red Light District...

The location is perfect and right in the middle of the red light district with walking distance to any attraction. Linen and soap where given for free, the shared bathroom was clean too. We were lucky to be in the ground floor since there weren't any elevators for the top floors. The staff at the bar were very helpful giving...

Property opens up directly to a very busy street along a canal, so you're never too far from the bustle. However, this also means that you can hear the parties going on until about 3 AM. Staff was very accommodating, and the bar downstairs is 24/7 for hotel guests so a drink is always within reach. Wifi is also very...

The hotel is in the middle of Red Light District, the best asset of this hotel, or hostel really, is its location and the price. If you want to stay in the middle of everything and do not pay the fortune this is the place to choose. I am not so sure this is a hotel actually, it is more...

Although it's in the heart of the red light district, I felt very safe! It's a very touristy area. The hotel rooms desperately need decorating and the plumbing was awful. Every time the shared toilet flushed the sink made a gargle noise. Also one toilet was almost always blocked. The shared showers were always clean and we didn't have to...

We're a couple and we stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Ours room was cleaned and big enough. The bar on the ground floor is a perfect choice for drinking a beer before sleeping and their restaurant has good plates. The position of hotel is perfect! You're in the middle of Amsterdam and from here you're able to go...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
