This is a decent place to stay for a tourism trip. It's in the city centre so transport and everything is close by. You can easily walk to many attractions. However you're also very close to the red light district and you can smell marijuana everywhere so not the best location if travelling with kids. Slight negatives: showers is tiny.... More

Here is what I look for when I book rooms using TripAdvisor and my corresponding comments as it relates to this hotel: Location: It is about a 5-10 min walk from the Central station, so it is pretty much close to everything in the city. Red-light, canals and everything you would want is minutes away. Room: There was no refrigerator,... More

Because of a large convention in town my hotel choices were very limited and very expensive. I chose Luxer primarily based on its proximity to Centraal Station and the river boat dock. It has a small modern room with a very nice bathroom. Our room (210) was in the back and we didn't experience any street noise. The elevator was... More

We stayed for two nights in a very comfortable double room. We had the buffet breakfast both days which was good value for €8 although space was limited in the dining area. The hotel is in a fantastic location - 5 minutes from the railway station and 10 minutes from Dam Square. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and... More

This hotel was a gem in the city with a great deal considering the location. It was nice to have a bar in the hotel for a night cap. The rooms were nice and clean. The staff was very friendly. It was a short walk from the train station and located in a great place for food and sights. Would... More

This is a modern, delightful hotel located in the heart of the historic district. We had booked a small room, and it was small. But we are medium sized people so it worked out well. The staff all spoke English and were very helpful. The breakfast buffet was really good, but do get there early if you want the eggs.

We were able to find the hotel quite easily, with the help of a street map. It is literally about a 7 minute walk from central station. We were checked in quickly in the reception (which doubles as bar). We had a triple room on the 1st floor, overlooking the busy street. We did not seem to be disturbed at... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
