Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

You learn a lot about a company by the way they treat people in a crisis and Hotel Luxer is about the absolute worst. The EU has banned foreigners from entering the country and yet Luxer will not refund us our money. If you prevent me from traveling to your country, how is that my fault? Their emails and phone calls have been rude and completely oblivious to the fact that everyone is now struggling. Would never book this hotel again

About ten years ago I started backpacking around Europe for about a month at a time, a couple of times a year. With my Eurail pass, I went everywhere. But over the years, after I had been to most tourist sites multiple times, Amsterdam became a more frequent stop with longer stays. Nowadays, my backpack trips are only two weeks at most, and with such a limited time, they have essentially become Amsterdam trips with some side adventures to Germany. Back in the beginning, before I got comfortable spending the retirement kitty, I did my trips on the cheap. Well not so cheap that I stayed in hostels or far from Warmoesstraat. I like being next to the Train station, and I like being close to Warmoesstraat. I sampled a lot of the budget hotels in the area (budget?), including the Luxer, Hotel CC, hotel Ben, the Golden Tulip (now known as the Travel Hotel), and others. Somewhere back in those days I even did some reviews which compared the various hotels along Warmoesstraat from Barbizon to the Krasnapolsky. As time went by, I started feeling a little more secure that I would be able to eat at least for most of the remainder of my life and moved up the hotel food chain. I started alternating between the Barbizon and the Krasnapolsky. They both aggravated me one way or another, every time I stayed, so I’d switch to the other. As I was planning this trip, I thought why not go back to the Luxer. They always exceeded expectations. And so they did again. Ok, I am not going to over promise and under-deliver, and neither does the Luxer. The rooms are going to be tiny. The bathrooms will be smaller. They don’t lay out a robe and slippers with turn down service (but neither do Barbizon and Krasnapolsky). But when you walk out of the door in the morning you are in the heart of Amsterdam. The staff are uniformly friendly. And as far as I am concerned, there is no better location than Luxer. I am coming back to the Luxer on my next trip. That trip is scheduled in 62 days. I hope that viruses do not cancel it. By the way take a look at the picture I post of the front of the Luxer. I think it is cute, and so did my Facebook friends. There is just one thing wrong with the picture—that broken sign. Without the Luxer's unique pinkish/purplish neon sign, some of the character is lost. We must all band together and insist that the owner fix that sign before my next visit.

Good hotel right in the heart of things. Rooms are a reasonable size, clean and functional. The guys on reception were really helpful and a nice touch was you got a little gift bag on the way out. I would say only choose if you want to be in the heart of the action.

We had an awesome stay at the Hotel Luxer! The room was comfy, clean, and modern. The location was perfect. Located close to the Station Centraal and was walking distance to most areas. The Museum District was just a quick tram ride away. The street the hotel is on is really nice too! It is closed to cars and full of restaurants and shops. I loved it! The front staff was really nice and helpful too! And, when we checked out, they gave us a bag full of goodies! There were snacks, a drink, tissues, and even a little lotion. I have never received anything like this from any other hotel, and we travel A LOT! It was such a sweet surprise... and rally appreciated as we headed out to the airport at 8am!
