My boyfriend and I had a great stay here. The room was basic but clean and had a lovely view over the canal. It is so close to the station and really easy to find. Minutes walk to all the places you want to go. The staff were really nice, always helpful and friendly. You have to leave your key... More

this is the first time I have stayed in a quad room, the room is quite basic but the bonus is you have an en suite shower/toilet. Our towels were changed every day and the floor hoovered.Breakfast is sparse but it is free after all so that is to be expected. Great central location and we found the staff very friendly... More

Stayed here while back packing Europe for the one night. It was a good location for what we wanted being near the station and red light district. It was nothing like the description we were given, we are a young couple but the room was more like a small corridor with 2 single beds against the length of the wall.... More

The placeis right in the middle of Amsterdam within a 5min radius of all the place you must see...the breakfast is pretty good and homely...a warm staff ..The bar is amzing and the hotel does give you an old feeling of warmth The rooms are a little small...but then it's not a place where you would want to be indoors:)

Set in the heart of Amsterdam the Old Quarter hotel is only a stones throw away from all the attractions this beautiful city has to offer. For three nights staying at hotel Old Quarter set us back €120 each, which isn't too bad considering its location. This price also includes a free breakfast, consisting of a fried egg, bacon and... Having read reviews here prior to our visit, we decided to stay at the Old Quarter, BIG MISTAKE!!! We paid £200 for 3 nights for an en-suite double but when we arrived and checked in we discovered it was a twin with the beds both top-to-tail. I went downstairs to refuse the room but was told that this was the... More

Overall, we were very happy with this hotel. Although it was rather pricey for a double en-suite (90 Euros), two years ago we paid about 60 Euros to stay in a cupboard with no windows! That's why we chose to splash out a bit, and so happy we did. After reading other reviews that say how noisy the street is,... More

I hated this hotel! Pretty much from the moment we walked in! The girl behind the bar was grumpy and spoke like she couldnt really be bothered with us. We had to leave the key behind the bar every time we left, then stand like idiots while hotel staff took ages to press the special buzzer to open the stupid... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
