While this place has a number of pluses [e.g., location and friendliness of the staff] the bed bug issue is not to be denied. I am back home from 4 nights at the Hotel Old Quarter over the weekend. I read of the little critters and was, I suppose, prepared to take my chances —and the first two nights, I...

I have just returned from Amsterdam after a 2 night stay at this hotel. I booked it for my boyfriend as a surprise for his 30th birthday. Like a lot of the reviews we thought the location of this hotel was excellent but thats about it. On arrival we checked in and was told our room was not in the...

Myself and friends stayed here. When we woke up in the morning we were covered in bites and red blotches, on closer inspection there were black and green little round bugs on the walls, in the sink and up the bed. My friends in the other room had no problems though so when I went to complain to the manager...

We only stayed here for one night.. It is in the heart of Amsterdam, minutes from the train station, Dam square, Red Light DIstrict.. Nothing is more than ten mins walk at most. The room we stayed in had 2 single beds end to end, up 2 'typically Dutch, ankle twisting flights of stairs'. The room was no 5 star...

After 2 years I returned back to amsterdam for New Year hollidays, I stayed 2 weeks at the Old Quarter hotel. I loved the neaberhoud and the staff of the bar / restaurant at the groundfloor. I wish the crew of the Old Quarter all the best for 2012.

Absolutely loved this hotel! Staff were really friendly! It's right in the centre of everything! Our room was amazing! Looked right out onto the canal! The only 1 bad thing I could say is that the shower is attached to the wall so you can't move the shower head about! (personal issue I suppose) there was even a vending machine...

I stayed here for 3 nights sharing a room with 2 mates. Not much I can say about it really except it was somewhere to sleep. At least it seemed clean although quite depressing inside.. The pub was quite good and had a lot of beers and it is just off warmoesstraat so it has a good location but thats...

Old Quarter is a pub/hotel in the Red Light district of Amsterdam, but don't let that put you off; the staff are very friendly, and the accommodation is spotless and quiet. For its location, just five minutes walk from the Central Station, it's extremely good value, and you even get a "free" breakfast, even if it's a small one; bacon...

I was very disapointed with my stay at this hotel. The standard of the rooms (nr. 3 and 4) where the worst I have ever seen (not only because of the bedbugs). For the price of 110 euro a night, we espected more. At the hotels webside, and hotels.com and other websides, the hotel appeals to many different people, including...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
