I travelled with my 12 year old daughter, the hotel room was fine, but the location and the the pub area we had to walk through wasn't really appropriate. Also the view we had was of a wall and a courtyard. This seemed to be the place where people smoked which went straight into the windows. There are signs that... More

If your a group of young guys then this place will be perfect. Great staff! Perfect location! Brekfast was great! Room was small and you have to wait a few minutes in between showering as the bathroom was easily flooded but not a real problem. Coffeeshop next door and red light district only few minutes away.

Fantastic location, very close to the central station and red light district. We were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our room across the street from the reception/bar. The room and shared bathroom were basic but very clean and well kept. Even though it is close to the busy centre we were very rarely woken by noise. Thank... More

To start off with the room was ridiculously small. The mirror was almost by the ceiling. The tv didn't work. The bedside light didn't work. The room was dirty. The cleaners barely even came in. The shared toilet and shower wasn't the nicest. The stairs were really steep. The staff were not very friendly and the prices of food and... More

After reading other reviews, we thought we had made a mistake booking this hotel, but it wasn't as bad as we expected. Yes it is basic, and would benefit from some refurbishment, but it is very central (5 mins from station, easy walking distance to most of Amsterdam's sights) the staff are friendly enough, the wifi works well and if... We were a bit nervous about coming after seeing some of the reviews on here. However we were pleasantly suprised. Yes the rooms are small (most of them are in Amsterdam) but ours were clean and newly refurbished. We all had an ensuite shower/toilet and tv. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well because there was little noise... More

Perfect location. Near central station & some other tourist attractions centre. Good staff, they're helpful. .However the room was too small & no iron & kettle. The price was too high for that low quality hotel.

Hotel old quarter is in a perfect location. We were sighing walking distance from just about everything. We arrived at 11am, however our room (triple room, number 25 on the 1st floor) was being cleaned and we couldn't access our room until 2pm. That was fine, as we were able to store our luggage in their storage facilities and roam... More

I must admit, I'm all for a bit of luxury when I travel, but, I left it to my other half this time and was dreading the outcome!!! Was The Old Quarter luxurious? No, it wasn't.....however, it was clean and quirky and very central to all the sights and smells you come to expect as a dedicated visitor to Amsterdam!... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
