We'll start with the serious points: 14 bed room, boiling warm so had to keep window open and endure the annoying sound of church bells every half hour from 6am, whilst hungover. When one person is up, everyone's up. No sleep. #hereforthesesh Toilets n showers smell due to sharing with about 1 million people. Cleaners take pictures of your mess,... More

Came here with my friend on the first stop while interrailing. Hostel is small but for the price it is decent. We became friends with everyone in our dorm plus more which meant that we got to really experience Amsterdam properly! People at the desk also happy to help. Only one complaint is that the maids were seriously noisy in... More

Good location, close to the station and everything touristy in Amsterdam. Rooms were very hot and fairly clean. Showers were not that clean. Really enjoyed the 20% discount at the bar next door. Cheap pitchers of Heineken. It's a place to stay, but nowhere I would stay again.

The hostel is right in the middle of the red light district, so it is perfect for tourists. We got put on the top floor and the view out of the french windows was very pretty. Most things about the hostel are very basic but the staff are lovely and overall a very pleasant stay.

Me and my partner stayed in a private room. Although it was tiny, the beds were cosy and warm. The price of the hostel couldn't be beaten considering the location. We were right in the middle of the red light district. The staff were friendly and very helpful when I asked for advice or reviews on where to go. There... More

Excellent location. The staff is really kind. The bar next door is really good and everyone staying at the White Tulipe has 20% off. Overall is a normal hostel, but these things I mention made my experience there lovely.

The Hostel is situated in the heart of the heart of Amsterdam, so a huge plus. It is not that nice inside, bud the beds are clean. We stayed in a room with 10 beds(I think) so it is noisy in the morning when everyone wakes up at different hours. We had a discount to the Irish pub near the... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night during our most recent backpacking trip. I had not been to Amsterdam before and wanted to stay down town. This hostel was in a very central location, close to train stations, restaurants and bars. Our room was on the third floor and it was very warm! There was a church chime/bell... More

My partner and I got a lot less than we expected with this place in terms of amenities. To be fair the whole place was under construction I'm sure it's better now. Steap price for sharing a room with 14 people. Subpar bathrooms and no kitchen or much of a lobby area. We had an overnight issue with some of... More

Stayed here recently in a 4 bed private dorm... and gee am i glad we were close friends to begin with because this room was so tiny we were basically on top of each other. The rooms were dirty and ceilings stained of smoke. The lighting was so dim to get things out of our bags at night we had... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
