When we got to the hotel I was a little worried, it didn't look very big from the outside and I thought we'd end up in a hostel type shared room a one bathroom per floor kind of deal. However I was extremely pleased to be proven wrong. It had a feel of Faulty Towers but that was due to... More

We had a great experience. Rooms are small but to be expected in Amsterdam.. They were clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food at the Restaurant was plentiful and very tasty.

We don't go to Amsterdam to sit in the hotel. Doria is a short walk from the train station and once you've dumped your bags in the room you are pretty much where you want to be. Dam square is a minute away on foot and the other way is the red light district, coffee shops, bars and tacky tourist... More

My third time in this hotel. Central location, friendly stuff... Only one hairdrier in reception. The rooms that are facing Damstraat are very noisy. No air conditioning.

Room small but clean and ok for what we wanted, a clean bed to sleep in at the end of the day. Ideal location for everything that's going on. Had noisy 'neighbours' but besides that, got a good nights sleep, although the rooms are very warm! Breakfast basic, but enough. You can get a Full English across the road if... More

we paid 80 euros per night, and i believe could have done much better with the huge selection in the town center. tiny rooms, not very clean, can bearly fit 2 people. hot and very very noisy, even late at night (it is, after all, the red window district). breakfast was poor and unsatisfying. over-priced for such poor conditions.

I'll start with the positives: there is no better location if you intend to explore the city. It is just next to the Dam Square, 2 minutes walk from the Red-light district and 10 minutes walk from the Central Station. This is a very basic 3 star hotel (bed and breakfast), and if you intend to spend the whole day... More

Two of us stayed here. When we arrived, it was during some of the wettest time in Amsterdam's history and some of the bedrooms were leaking so they couldn't be used. We had booked two single rooms but there was only one available so they upgraded the second room to a twin room. We had rooms on the fourth floor... More

Doria Hotel was smack bang at the centre of it all with an excellent location just off Dam Square. It is within walking distance of most tourist spots and saves a small fortune on trams and the like if you decide to walk. The hotel itself has it's own pizzeria beneath it with a varied menu which is very handy... More

The Location ------------------------ Hotel Doria is placed at Damstraat 3, right next to Dam square. It's about 10 min walk from the central station (walking along the Damrak avenue), and right next to the red light district. There's a tram station 50-80m away from the hotel, and another one just past the royal palace (which is located at Dam square).... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
