Ace lotion on the red light district! 2 minute walk from the first bulldog café, friendly and simple. Rooms were clean and bathrroms were fine. Perfect for a cheap trip and a bed! It didn't bother my sharing bathroom and bedroom as everyone was friendly and with such good prices and location how could I refuse to stay again! Ace... More

Decent place to stay. It's a simple hostel, not a 5* hotel. Staff were friendly enough. Food was decent. Had no issues in a private 6 bed dorm, with a nice bathroom. Was a bit expensive for what it was, maybe not so if we'd have booked further in advance. Wi-fi doesn't reach to rooms and can be a bit... More

Beds were ok. Location was great. Wifi does not go to the rooms. Staff was ordinary, at times rude Would not recommend, especially since there are so many other places nearby. Security was good. Decently clean.

Good central location and good price. Travelled with 4 friends and we got a private room which was much better than expected! Would recommend to friends looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful in Amsterdam. Had breakfast once but didn't go back!

Stayed here as part of a group of 17 on a Stag Do. The Hotel is very basic and in run down in places however, it was fit for its purpose. Don't expect anything special from the rooms, they're just there to sleep in. The Hotel has a good bar with plenty of drink options available and its open late.... More

We stayed here for a quick trip in the city, and booked quite late so were trying to find the cheapest option. We were a bit scared about staying here from some of the tripadvisor horror stories posted - but were pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look much from the outside but the rooms are clean and spacious inside and the... More

Hostel is in a good location and we booked despite some of the bad reviews. Have to say that the room was standard for a budget hostel. Beds and bathroom seemed reasonably clean. Staff are miserable and rude, not sure what their problem is perhaps they've been working in the red light district too long.

I found this place at the last minute because spring break was about to start. But I would say that is a nice place (for a couple of days only), probably not as fancy but it was ok: clean and organized. And the best is the location, is close to a lot of really cool places! One bad thing was... More

We spent 3 nights in this hostel in March and we would never go back here. We paid 60 € /person /night. When we arrived, we couldn't let our bags in the hostel while we were waiting for the room to be cleaned (which didn't seem cleaned by the way). The welcome was awful, very cold. We discovered that there... More

Stayed here with my partner and another couple in the quadruple room. Had its own toilet and shower so was like any other hotel room wouldn't have known it was a hostel if I wasn't told. Great location. Literally everything is on your doorstep and a few minutes walk from the train station.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
