We only stayed in Amsterdam for one night so we came to the city pretty early. The two guys at the front desk barely greeted us when we arrived. from the start it felt like we were more of a bother to the staff than appreciated hotel guest. Working at a hotel myself for a few years and in the service industry my whole life has made me very aware of details. The first thing I noticed was the state of the two guys behind the desk. They looked like the just got out of bed. Their shirts were not ironed, their nails were long and dirty and their hair was barely combed. add to that that the floor and the walls of the front desk area looked like it hadn't been properly cleaned in weeks. We were a group of nine people and had booked 6 rooms in total(some of us sharing rooms). Eventhough all the rooms were supposed to be charged on one credit card we had to do one transaction for each room. and everyone who's ever done travel expense knows how much more work this creates. Ones all of this was sorted we put our luggage away in a closet since the rooms weren't ready yet(which was totally fine). After a few hours of Amsterdam we came back to get settle in to the rooms. When we arrived at the hotel the same guy from before was still behind the counter. We asked for our luggage and he just opened the door for the closet and let us take out our own luggag, without checking that we actually took the right bags(anyone could take any bag or suitcase they wanted). Once we got our bags and the room keys we headed up to the rooms. Two of the guys got keys that didn't work, one of the females in our group got a key to a room that was already occupied. Everytime one of came down to the front desk again to ask for them to fix their mistake we got met with an attitude like we were asking them to run a marathon hungover. We overheard the manager telling his employees to charge us five euros if we asked for anything else. The rooms were of good size but not very clean. I can only properly speak for my room but that was horrible. It smelled a bit funky, the walls looked like somebody had splashed water on them, it was dusty and the drain in the shower had enough hair in it to create a nice rapunzel wig with. The only thing that almost stopped me from writing this review was the gentleman at the front desk that was working the afternoon when we left around 17.00 on the 21st of september. He was very helpful getting out luggage and event though he had a big group arriving at the same time he managed to multitask and still keep a big smile on his face and deliver great services to us and this group. Big props to this fine gentleman. You should get him to teach the rest of the staff on how to look and behave towards paying hotel guests.…
Would have marked this an average hotel if it wasn't for the very nice staff and the very pleasant and safe location. The room was pretty basic, and the shower room very small but it was adequate and clean. Far from luxurious though
The hotel is located in a great area close to Vondel Park, museums, and Leidseplein however we were extremely disappointed with our stay. We waited over an hour to CHECK IN and when we asked if there will be any compensation and they no and did not offer anything. Upon waiting the staff said they would go and check if the room was clean which should of been done already and finally when he came back, he said we could go to the room. Once we got to the room, it was very dirty. The toilet was not cleaned from the guests before, no toilet paper, dirty floors, windows and mirrors. The carpets were not vacuumed and had alot of dust and dirt on them. The staff seemed to be overworked and tired. Which made it uncomfortable for guests to ask them for assistance as you felt they weren't very keen to assist guests. The breakfast has very little options and if your a few minutes late you will get a few nasty comments about being charged if you get another coffee. We did not feel comfortable and wouldn't recommend staying here.…
The only positive was the location. Room wasn’t very clean, fresh cheese dip or something like that on the carpet, dust most places and the worst for me was the staff seemed to be so tired of the guests. Maybe it’s peak tourist season in Amsterdam but you could tell the staff either needed a break or were simply just sick of all of the guests. Waited an hour to check-in. At the allotted check in time we were told they were just checking to see if the room was ready, AN HOUR LATER we had to go ask again to which they slowly check us in. Would not stay here again.
Amsterdam is not a cheap place to stay with teenage sons as we wanted a family room so we were delighted to find this hotel in the Museum District. It's set on a beautiful quiet road, but near to a tram stop which takes you into the centre if you wish. Our family room was spacious and comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast choice was lovely. Very nice scrambled eggs and my son's enjoyed their waffles made to order. Would definitely recommend.
This hotel is very well located by Vondel Park, museums, and Leidseplein. It is on a very quiet street so it probably doesn't matter which side of the hotel your room is on. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They did upgrade our room without asking. The room was quite large with a very large bathroom. There was lots of counter space and a large soaking tub in addition to the shower. The room was on the top floor with lots of windows and a strong A/C. I also found a large carton of milk in the mini-fridge with a pull date of March 2022. We stayed the end of May, and judging from the dust and the milk, maybe no one had stayed in the room since then. I would try staying here again, can't beat the location. .
Our room seemed to be clean enough, but the mud coloured walls and carpet in the bedroom gave the opposite impression, this was enhanced by the large ceiling light in the centre of the room which was covered in dust, that became even more apparent when it was lit. The hotel location is great, within easy walking distance of the museums and many attractions. You can walk out in the morning to visit most of the centre and amble back late afternoon and put your feet up before going out for the evening. This pleasure was spoilt for us as the room was not made up until after we returned at 5pm. The bed was comfortable, but had a thick top mattress that migrated across the bed to hand of the side when sitting up reading. This is a hotel were you will want to use the lift as the almost spiral staircase has very narrow treads which test your agility. The small breakfast room is lovely, only spoilt by the staff having to use it as a passageway to the rear of the building so having to negotiate their way between tables and guests. The range of food on offer is good, but not exceptional. All the staff we had contact with were excellent. In many ways it is lovely hotel, but not 4 star.…
We stayed for 5 nights and we thought everything about the hotel was excellent. We would definitely stay there again. Great (quiet and safe) location, friendly, helpful, efficient and knowledgeable staff. Short walk to tram stops, Leidseplein and the Museum Quarter. Nice breakfast with pancakes or waffles cooked to order. Recommended!
Really lovely place. The room was a little bit thigh but had an amazing bed, super comfortable and the bathtub was wonderful. Really good breakfast and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a perfect location, you can reach the museum area by walking 10 minutes through a lovely park. Also there's a tram stop 4 minutes walk away
I loved the time we spent at the hotel. Room was so comfortable and this queen sized bed was amazing. Extra plus for the hydromassage bathtub. But the best of all are people that work in Roemer Hotel, I've never met that kind staff. I really recommend Roemer Hotel 👍
