The Hotel Roemer is located just south of Leidseplein, so ideal for tram connections to the rest of the city. A comfortable hotel, with very pleasant service and good breakfast options. IMO expensive for what it was, but then Amsterdam is no longer a cheaper destination.

Location is fine, room size fine. Cleanliness-if you like waking up with bites all over you face and body then great! The place needs a revamp and a good clean and sheets and mattresses bleaching! Avoid!

We visited the hotel feeling we didn’t know what to expect due to some very mixed reviews. No complaints at all about the room. Very clean, clean towels every day and bed made etc. Staff helpful, location of the hotel was great. Only thing was it advertised it had a bar. The bar was fridges in the reception that you could get alcohol or drinks and charge it to your room. Can’t comment on the breakfast as it turned out we didn’t book it. Loads of bars and cafes in 5 min walk were we had some amazing breakfast and meals out.

We arrived at the hotel, to which we were told our room was ready, we were handed the key and told the room number. The key opened the door to which a coupld was having sex on the bed. I immediatley shut the door and went back to reception to which I was told they were on a late check out and we needed to come back at 3pm. We came back at 3 to which was told the room was not clean. We didn't get into our room until 3.30pm. Totally unacceptable.

The room is very spacious, but it is not as pictured. There was also construction right next door which was not advised, which made a lot of noise early in the morning. This may be a problem when you are trying to get rid of jet lag.

I booked a room via secret escapes, because I had stayed at the hotel for business stays about 10 years ago and had a fantastic experience. I did not check anything online on reviews or rating and booked the "charming 4 star boutique hotel" according to the description on the booking site. I thought I had a lucky bargain, because on other dates the hotel was much more expensive. How ignorant and a bit stupid was I, not to look into the normal pricing and recent reviews of the hotel. It was a bit of a scam on the booking site I guess. I stayed with my 9 year old son for a small Amsterdam trip and expected my cosy hotel experience I previously had. None of it all. The room has a very outdated, I would even say seedy vibe about it. We were located in the opposite building, where the neighbours are currently renovating, so a lot of noise the whole day round. My son wanted to watch television, but only 3 channels functioned. I complained about it, but nobody seemed able to fix it. It seemed like they knew about it, but did not care about it. A lot of young people stay in the hotel, which gives it a hostel vibe. Do not expect a boutique hotel, perhaps it was in the beginning, but the hotel turned into a cash cow. I complained, and got a dicount/refund for the breakfast. Breakfast we did not have. I wanted us to forget the lousy experience and had breakfast at Joffers which is a really nice place to have breakfast/lunch or coffee. THe only positive thing about the hotel is the location I guess. If you do not give a bit about your hotel experience and just want a clean bed, than I guess the price/value is very OK. I was looking for a pleasant soulful hotel stay and had loved to spend triple the amount for a night, had I known the hotel became what it is now.

Stayed here when we visited the city was perfect location for the city centre , breakfast was ok, fresh eggs plenty of bacon , coffee, juice etc filled up for the day then just bought evening meals so keeps the cost down , room was ok nice little balcony and a jacuzzi bath , carpet could have done with a clean and the wet room shower drenched the floor but was all ok for what we paid we were happy. They came in and cleaned the room for us. There’s a spar just round the corner to stock up on things for your room eg fresh water and snacks as it’s all very costly in the hotel

Hotel is in a convenient location, lots of good restaurants and bars nearby. About half an hours walk to central station but close to the museum quarter and Vondelpark. Staff are all lovely and friendly and there is the luggage store should you need it. Street is quiet. The hotel is in desperate need of some refurbishment. It feels very tired, dirty in places and generally uncared for. Housekeeping is very late in the day so sometimes easier to go without and ask for what you need from reception. It also seems to be pot luck what facilities you get in your room - we had a mini fridge but our friends in the building opposite didn’t (but they did have a safe in their bathroom at least!). Noisy guests and thin walls but feels like it comes with the territory of the old building! A little TLC and this could be brilliant.

Disappointed. I’ve been conflicted about writing this review as the staff were lovely and the location is excellent. However: Myself and my friend paid extra to stay in a basement executive room for the extra room. I am not a fussy person when it comes to hotels but this one definitely was a let down. There was no mini bar/fridge which was a surprise. We had to put our milk and drinks outside to make them cold. The room itself although spacious was definitely quite grubby, floors stained, bad staining in tiles in bathroom. The coffee machine was dirty also. Our room happened to be situated beside the room with the washing machines. Staff congregated here from 08.30 waking us each morning while they chatted loudly and had a giggle. In our 3 nights also we had no one clean our room, we went out each day early and returned around 5pm to get ready for dinner. At this time each night was when they came to clean our room. So we had no room cleaning at all, no fresh cups, towels or sheets. Bins not emptied. Teas and coffees not topped up. I have no idea why they waited until this time of the day to clean rooms when we saw others beside us being cleaned when we were leaving. All in all I wish I had booked elsewhere as a little comfort goes a long way and for two busy friends to plan such a special trip and stay in a place like this was beyond disappointing. I would not return.

Very good location near National Museum and Leidselplein Street with plenty good restaurants. Tram stop is also near and connection to Centraal Station and city center is easily reached. Hotel Roemer have bigger Junior Suites aprox. 30 m2 on 3rd floor and other rooms 1st and 2nd floor are much smaller aprox. 18 m2. Rooms are relatively quiet and there are no restaurants on the street. Only negative is that air condition main unit is above 3rd floor Junior Suites, and it will generate low frequency humming noise that might disturb you sleeping. We are sensitive sleepers and we always travel with 3M earplugs for minimize extra noises. Elevator is modern at Roemer and it is a must in Netherland hotels due very very narrow and steep stairs. Breakfast is ok but basic, and you can order fried eggs, pannekoeken and such if you need more that is offered. If you book a room without breakfast included prepare to pay 15-18 euros/person/day. For us breakfast was good in quality and items available. Honest Bar is very innovative concept at Roemer Hotel.
