The hotel is situated very centrally on the Singel canal and in my opinion was worth every penny. I only stayed for one night but the room was spacious and clean and had an excellent view of the Singel Canal. The staff were very polite and friendly and served an excellent breakfast in the morning and also very happily stored... More

My 4 night booking was cocked up and I did not get the room I had originally booked (the Escher Room). After they showed me a dingy room and I refused it, I was, after some rearranging, given a lovely twin/double room next to Escher called the Mondrian room. Nice sized room, and a lovely bathroom. Beds clean, comfy, as... More

Hotel has a nice location on the canal but unless you are looking out the window, you can't enjoy the view. Also there is construction currently on the canal and it is loud in the morning. We had the Vermeer room. We were told we could take the lift to the floor the room was on but when we went... More

We stayed here in October for 3 nights and had a lovely time. Hotel is very clean and staff are friendly. It's also in a great location for exploring the city. Only downside we found was no tea or coffee facilities in the room. But the view from the window was nice and offers some quality entertainment at night

My sister and I stayed at the Hotel Brouwer in the Vermeer room in October 2006 for three nights. We highly recommend it. Here are our comments: Pluses: - Friendly people - Cute breakfast room and breakfasts -- great coffee - Elevator - Location, not far from train station, easy walk - comfortable beds and pillows - clean - feel... Lovely hotel right in the centre of things. We stayed (as many other people writing reviews here) in the Escher room on the top floor. The hotel only has 8 rooms, so booking ahead is a must. The views from the Escher room over the canal and city are great. Breakfast was simple but well prepared and really nice. The... More

The hotel was great, clean, comfortable and spacious. We stayed in the Escher suite which was on the top floor. There was a small elevator. The bathroom was impeccably clean with double sinks, magnifying mirrors, a separate bathtub and a nice shower with good water pressure. It was a handheld, but you could keep it on the wall if you... I can't recall the name of our room but it was in a corner, on (I think) the second floor. There is a photo of it posted by a previous reviewer (the one that did "Best 400 year old hotel ever"). It was a nice room, although the floor was noticeably slanted. Had a lot of windows overlooking Singelgracht, so... More

I have nothing but praise for the Brouwer. From the tasty breakfast (suprisingly good croissants and terrific coffee!) to the spectacular views, this hotel is the best deal in Amsterdam. We were in the Van Gogh room, which is a corner room with views on two sides. I fell in love with the views, and the location. We were central... More

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Amsterdam's delightful Hotel Brouwer. For starters, its location is ideal - a gorgeous, five-minute walk to Centraal Station, and close to countless cafes (also a few Red Light windows, if you're interested in that). I stayed in the Mesdag Room for four nights - at 55 Euros a night, it seemed like... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
