My husband and I just returned from our stay at the Hotel Brouwer in Amsterdam, and we can't recommend it highly enough! It's a wonderful old canal house. Staying here made it feel like we were really experiencing life like Amsterdammers! I am most comfortable making reservations directly, rather than through a 3rd party, so I actually called the hotel... More

We spent three nights in the Vermeer room in late March 2008. We were not disappointed. We arrived before our room was ready on the first day but leaving our luggage there was no problem. Similarly on our last day, they stored our luggage until 6pm as we had a late flight home. We found it a friendly and relaxed... More

Perfect little hotel! Rooms (Vermeer): * Clean and quite big compared to average european * Flat screen TV * Canal view Area: * Close to Central station * Walking distance to main locations (we walked to Leidseplein and museums also) * Beatiful Jordaan nearby, good restaurants, market * Few red light windows, not a problem * Quiet Personnel: * Very... I stayed at the Hotel Brouwer back in October of 2007. I was originally referred to the hotel by the Rick Steves Amsterdam, Brugge, and Brussels guidebook. From there, I visited the hotel's website, and then the listing here on the tripadvisor site. Based on everything I had seen, plus the ridiculously central location, and all of the amazing reviews,... More

I thought this was a charming hotel within walking distance to the train station and several areas of Amsterdam. Breakfast is included and was a nice array of choices. I found the staff friendly. The room was basic very clean and roomy . I would definitly stay here again.

Positive aspects were central location, comfortable older rooms with 3 to a floor, and rate. Negatives were several red-light windows/rooms on the street including ~next door, which we had not heard about in previous reviews and can make the location difficult with children, the staff was indifferent and breakfasts average. If staying there also ask for a high floor away... More

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Brouwer for one night last December and were so happy with our choice. The hotel is clean, warm, and welcoming. We stayed in the Escher Room on the top floor - the tiny elevator was very helpful in getting our bags up the many flights. The room was bright and cheerful, the... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Brouwer, and we really enjoyed our time there. The hotel is accessible and comfortable. There is one computer with Internet access off the main room that was available for us to use free of charge, as long as we didn't use it too long to preclude other guests from using it. There... I have no idea how this hotel got rated so highly but, to tell the truth, the entire experience has caused me to doubt the ratings process of tripadvisor.com. For the money, I suppose it is fine, but it is nowhere near the top 100 in Amsterdam, let alone 20. The floors are so slanted (at least in the Van... More

A group of 7 American women in Amsterdam = trouble... but not really. We felt as if we were home at the Hotel Brouwer, and acted accordingly. The house is truly historic, crooked in all the right ways and wonderfully maintained. The rooms are all clean, as are the bathrooms. The breakfast is small, but not to be missed, it... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
