Second stay at this locale...2010 AND 2005. Reasonable mid-priced hotel in Amsterdam - cental...on the Singel canal...you can pretty much walk to everywhere and the Train Station is only a short walk away. Double Room this time - very cozy with ensuite, view of canal & street. Easy to heat in chilly December and nice table with chairs for take-away...

I stayed in this hotel with my son and it was just perfect!!!...There were two separate rooms..one of them having a "BOX BED" which my son loved..we were there with a group because my son was receiving an award and we had a nice gathering area for our group.. If I could offer one suggestion...the breakfast could have more variation.......

Granted, it was a tiny elevator, but at least it made getting the luggage up those Dutch canal home steps easy ! Great location to the Central Station, coffee houses, public transportation, and RIGHT on a canal. Want to return to Amsterdam for a 3 wk stay, but it might be out of our price range for that period of...

Hotel Brouwer was good. It is a well preserved hotel and in our room one got a running start to get into bed from either the windows are the bathroom, as the floor has settled in the center of the room. The staff (Joeseph, Ellen and everyone) was wonderful, very helpful, and interesting to talk to and interact with. They...

This was our first trip to Amsterdam (but it won't be our last) and, when we return, we'll return to the Hotel Brouwer, as well. This hotel is small, simple and clean but the charm lies in the 1652 building, with it's blue tiles, slanting floors and canal views. It sits on the Singel canal and is within easy walking...

Hotel Brouwer has a lot of great things about it: it is close enough to the city center to see and do many things, has beautiful canal views, the staff speak many languages and can help you make reservations, call taxis, or give you some good ideas about things to see off the touristy track. There is also a tiny...

One of the oldest hotels in Amsterdam. Well-maintained and very quaint and charming. Reception friendly and helpful. Breakfast rather thin and poor: just a few low-quality breads and a soft-boiled egg that's served well after beverage has cooled. French-press coffee is good, though. Room overlooking the canal was charming, but quite noisy with windows open. Traffic during the day and...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in early September. It was a very easy walk from central station and very easy to find along Singel canal. We arrived early on a Sunday morning and dropped off our bags. We had the Van Gogh room. Your two options are a spiral staircase or small elevator. We only had...

Pros: The owner is friendly and hospitable and went out of his way to make us comfortable. When we arrived at 11am expecting to just drop off bags and go find lunch before we could get our room ready, he immediately got us some orange juice while we waited for him to check the rooms - and then he got...

I have stayed here twice, once in 2005 and again in 2010. This is a 17th century canal house with 8 rooms (2 singles, 6 doubles or bigger) on the Singel Canal just west of the central Dam area. The location is perfect - very close to the city center but just far away enough from the noise of the...

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
