This was a unique experience and not for those who prefer big name hotels. Location was great- 10 minute walk to Central Station and Anne Frank House. Loads of restaurants in the area and a view of the canal from the room. Breakfast was very nice and the coffee was delicious. The stairs were scary and the elevator really tiny-... More

We have stayed at the Hotel Brouwer many times and we love it. This is more of a B & B than a full fledged hotel. The building is from the 1600's so it naturally has many quirks. The floors slant, the windows are single pane, the elevator is tiny, the stairs are steep - but that is its charm.... More

Me and my partner have stayed at this hotel 3 times in total. The rooms we have stayed in prior to our visit were lovely (see uploaded photos - there are two panos... The one with the red bedding is the Breughal suite). However, on this occasions we were put in the Breughal suite. THIS IS A WARNING TO GET... More

We appreciate all feedback and have addressed issues in this review that we feel were valid complaints. The closet has been totally refurbished. The reason the owner slept in the room is the same reason a chef tastes his food; quality control. We find the room, bed and bedding to be in perfect order (we of course keep all bedding clean and... More

We loved this hotel. We had a room on the top floor...warning, the lift is very small, only fitting one person and maybe a small bag. We took the winding steps all of the time during our 2 nights stay. The breakfast was soft boiled eggs, meats, fresh croissants, juice and french press coffee. We had a beautiful view of the... More

We weren't looking for a sterile room in a major hotel chain but, rather, a hotel that had a touch of Dutch culture and was comfortable. Hotel Brouwer was perfect for us! Hotel Brouwer is extremely well located - close to the Dam, easy access to public transportation, walkable to the central train station, good restaurants, good shopping, a nearby... More

I expected a quiet hotel with charming and quaint rooms. Instead we found a hotel that had a 'Red Light' establishment a few doors away with excessive street noises and a proprietor who was unfriendly and unhelpful. He insisted that we pay as soon as we arrived and seemed unwilling to make any suggestions for restaurants. We stayed at the... More

If all you want is a new, chrome-encrusted state-of-the-art hotel, this is not for you. But if you are looking for an authentic Dutch experience in an old Amsterdam building built in the 1400s, this is it. Our small room had very low ceilings, huge beams, and leaded casement windows looking out on the narrow street, which had a canal... More

I took my mother here to celebrate her 70th birthday in February, we enjoyed it so much that we returned in October! A clean and cosy bed and breakfast on one of the main canals. The building dates from the days when ships would pull into the Singel to sell their wares and the crew would find boarding for a... More

We stayed, as a group of friends, a week ago. This hotel is extremely unique; an old building on the Singel Canal, with walking distance to so many great restaurants and cafes. I would recommend bringing ear plugs as the walls and windows are thin, and you will hear most everything from the street and the near by rooms. Also,... More

Wonderful location within walking distance to Anne Frank House, Jordaan, Dam Square. The hotel seems rickety and the floors slant but that is part of the charm. Very nice continental breakfast. Wonderful canal views from the rooms. We were surprised that some of Amsterdam's famous red lights are just about next door but the area is very quiet and safe.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
