Considering the location (near the center) and the price (super low for Amsterdam) I was expecting something much worse. But everything is clean and reasonably cozy. The staff are friendly. My only complaint was that I had difficulty getting anything other than boiling hot water from the shower. But, in light of the price, this is but a minor quibble!...

Disappointing experience. While the room and bathroom were clean and simple, as advertized, the hot water in the shower didn't work which put quite a damper on our romantic weekend. The heating was also touch and go: freezing on our first night and then much too hot on the second (the knob on the radiator was very unreliable). Finally, a...

Really good experience. The receptionist was very friendly and the room so adorable. Not a hotel to people with mobility problems because of the stairs, but they advise it in the web. They gave me a great favour printing my boarding pass.

I've been there 2 years ago. The room was aged but ok. It' quiet nice that the shower is walkable. Everything was clean. The interior was a little old but for that condition ok. The hotel is next to the zoo "Artis" and also close to the city centre. The little cafe under the hotel is good and cheap too....

Me and my partner went for a 4 day mini.trip this hotel was perfect. Lovely attic room, coffee in reception and friendly staff. We were directly opposite the zoo and close enough to walk into the center :) my boyfriend left his headphones at the hotel and they have bent over backwards to get them back to me safely! Would...

If you want to go to amsterdam with some friends, the hotel plantage is perfect for you. Although it's not located in the center it's s 10min walkin to it or 2min by bike, and there is tram stop in the same corner. During the day it's very calm and as the sun goes the bars around start getting full....

Nothing special, but neat, tidy and value for money. The hotel manager was helpful, but as others noted, the staircase was steep. Room was clean and had nice roof windows, but the bathroom had an odd triangular wall, made showering a bit awkward.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
