The hotel itself was nice. It had a modern restaurant in the lobby open for dinners and breakfasts. It came handy, as there are no other places to eat close by. Two breakfast options were available: continental for 7.50 EUR and full buffet for 15.50 EUR. Both options were good.
The biggest surprise was that the room entrances are from exterior corridors. It could easily be a significant problem on a rainy or very cold day. It also gives a feeling of being in a cheap motel in North America.
The room was spacious and well decorated. Bed was comfortable and TV had some English channels. The service however was poor. We had to ask for another towel as only one was provided for the two of us. There was no soap in the shower and when we reported it to reception next day, nothing happened.
There was an electric kettle in the room, but no coffee or tea. You needed to bring it from the lobby (for a fee?)
The metro (M53) is right at the hotel. It provides direct transportation to Central station for 3:50 EUR on OV/Chipkaart, or about the same when tapping credit card. Two days out of 3 there were some problems on metro lines and delays, so you can't always count on it. There are also couple of busses, but we did not bother investigating their destinations.
Keep also in mind that the hotel, like all others in Amsterdam, charges 3 EUR per person per night city tax, which normally is not included in your reservation and needs to be paid at check in.
Overall hotel provided what was needed, but in future we would rather stay more in the city, if available and within our budget.
Very friendly staff and great atmosphere in the bar area.
Very good breakfast.
Room is clean and a good size with a fantastic shower.
It's 20 minutes by train to get into Amsterdam central by train.
We had a couple of evenings meals here which again was very nice.
There's a lovely park behind the hotel with an amazing lake you can hire a bike from the hotel if you want to cycle around it.
The hotel I'd on the main road but it's very quiet in the rooms so you wouldn't realise.
Would happily stay here again as it's a great base to explore Amsterdam
Our disappointment started about 4 days before we were due to arrive (bearing in mind this was just after Christmas) with an email saying due to renovation they won’t have a full menu, when phoning we were told there was a limited menu and there’d be a special dish each day and a larger meal could be provided for us. We were not told that the while restaurant bar area was closed and this and reception was instead a temporary building on reception. Very disappointing especially as the restaurant looks lovely by the photos on the website.
When we did arrived it seemed what we were told on the phone wasn’t accurate as the menu consisted of panini, pizza, soup of the day or fries. The staff were very helpful though and did what they could to provide us with 2 very good meals. We understand hotels sometimes need work but we’d like to have been told in advance giving us a chance to change our booking if need be.
The rooms were fine, typical for a modern hotel. The layout is different, accessing rooms from outside but that wasn’t a problem. It would be nice to have curtains for some privacy rather than metal shutters.
Our last night however, further disappointed us. We came back to the hotel early evening after a day walking round Amsterdam and were tired, but found our key cards didn’t work. Reception sorted it quickly but we then told they hadn’t changed towels from the day before, so a member of staff came with us bringing clean ones but we needed to ask him to replace the used ones despite being clearly used, we expected him to replace them without us asking. Rooms didn’t seem to be cleared this day, with the shower still having dirt in it from the day before. We also suspect that the beds were re-made not changed as one of our beds had a stain on the duvet in the same place 2 nights running.
We had a lovely few days in Amsterdam and will visit the city again, but the hotel sadly didn’t meet our expectations.
The Guys from the reception were very nice and talkative. I was feeling welcomed there every single day. They were able to help us with every single issue we had during this one-month stay with a smile on their faces. To be honest, without them our stay couldn't be so pleasant as it was.
The manager is a very nice lady, who took her time and asked us if we are feeling good in the hotel, if we don't need anything and if everything is alright. Conversations with her were interesting and inspiring for me.
Guys from the kitchen prepared delicious food for us and we were satisfied.
The hotel has a nice bar and lobby where you can sit with friends and refill energy.
With housekeeping service, we were satisfied too. After a long day at work, we had our beds made, floor vacuumed, trash bins empty, and clean towels in the bathroom.
This hotel is located near the metro, so it is very easy to move from there to the city.
What I found very nice is a location near Gaasperpark. I enjoyed running and nature in this park. It is just a few meters from the hotel and that place filled me with peace. If you are going to stay in the hotel, I recommend you to visit this park at least once.
The only thing I can do is to say one big THANK YOU for everything. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to stay in Amsterdam for a while.
After finally coaxing a worker out of the room, we had an excuse of they needed to move the boxes about. As if stacking boxes is more important than checking people in. She ordered the woman sat on the table still on her phone to check us in, who then explained she walked off as her shift is over.
I do have to give credit to one of the other receptionists we later met who was beyond polite and friendly.
Moving on to breakfast, as someone with a food intolerance I make sure to make this clear at the time of booking - making sure to inform reception on arrival and a member of staff at breakfast/at the restaurant. At breakfast, I informed the member of staff of this and if they had gluten free options available to which they said yes. As nothing else was said, I assumed (as I’ve found when going elsewhere) my gluten free food may be in its own section on the restaurant floor. Imagine my happiness when I see signs saying 100% gluten free over the bread and croissants - clearly this means they’re gluten free (see pics attached)! Wrong!!
The hotel is unable/ don’t care to take food allergies seriously. If you also have a food allergy BEWARE.
