The only positive to the hostel is the prime location! The staff are extremely rude and unhelpful. Before arriving they were unwilling to provide us with any help on how to find their hostel. On arrival, they were very rude and demanded more money although we had fully paid the set price (very confusing situation). The room we were given... More

Hostel was in a central location. There was no other positive about this hostel. We were in a basement room with no natural light. The drains from the bathroom smelled the room out. The rooms didn't feel clean. The reception staff were extremely rude & unhelpful. Wifi was very slow & makes things difficult when trying to contact family at... More

We first arrived to our hostel excited by our first destination of our interrailing trip..However, the staff at this hostel were the rudest staff of any hostel i've ever encountered. They took €40 from us when paying for our hostel saying that we had short changed them €20 so we gave them extra although we were positive we hadn't then... More

Very busy tourist hostel in ideal location close to central station, dam square and red light district. Rooms are tidy and nicely themed. Downfall is minimal information is provided at time of check in. Would have liked a friendly introduction with information such as where the breakfast area is, WiFi details and how to access the lockers in rooms.

We stayed in here in July, four guys, in room 2. At first glance, the location is amazing, although we didn't "use" the red light district, we were in the heart of the street. It's close to Dam Square which has multiple tram services for easy travel of the city. It is also a 10-15 minute walk from the train... More

Stayed here two nights with two friends, rooms slept 8 people, beds were comfy and rooms were clean didn't have any problems here and for the money you cannot complain at all. The hostel is right on the red light district so I would not recommend for family with young children. But if you are only going to smoke or... More

For the price no one can complain this has been the best vacation I ever took and I think the hostel had a little do with it. People who suggested great places to attend besides the tourist attraction. Yes this place isn't luxury but for 8 or 9 10 or so Euros how can you complain if your on vacation... More

No secure area for bag storage before the check in time of 14:30. After visiting a few too many coffee shops I headed back to check in, after handing the check in staff member money he attempted to take advantage of my intoxicated state and short change me by 20 euros. After I asked him for the full change he... More

These people are crooks. They refuse to refund cancelation made 48 hours and more in advance. I had to pay them a full room rate for a room I never stayed in and I sent them 72 hours notice. These people are bad, and deserve bad karma.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
