I agree with many of the other posters, a great place to stay but with pros and cons. The pros first. Breakfasts are great, all cold but fantastic cakes and breads with ham and cheese. A great location away from the hustle and bustle of the bars and cafes but with a good Thai restaurant next door and bars and...

My boyfriend and I stayed in the ground floor apartment and it was absolutely adorable. If you want to expierence the true dutch lifestyle, this is the place you should stay. It has a self catering kitchen which was great, we could go to the local store buy some groceries and make our own dinners (which also saved us money.)...

I've stayed here twice and found it to be a great location. Tucked away from the noice of Damplatz and the stoner district, Ken and Vlad are welcoming and incredibly helpful. The first time I stayed with them I was on vacation, and Ken was great about helping me plan an itinerary for my time in town. It's great to...

My wife and I stayed at Maes in October, 2004. The reviews were dead on and we had a terrific stay. Vlad and Ken were extremely helpful without being overly solicitous. The "annex" where we stayed was very comfortable with a huge connected private bathroom. The daily breakfast was more than ample with breads, ham, cheese, fresh fruit and coffee,...

What can I say about this Maes: the is my favorite place to stay at my favorite city on the planet. To me, Maes IS Amsterdam, and staying there really gives you the feeling of being THERE in Amsterdam. My husband and I stayed at Maes on our honeymoon and absolutely loved the room. Ken and Vlad really care about the house and have put a lot of thought and work into making it feel like home. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets and down comfortors mixed with the rich colors of the room were sumptuous! The...

Three of us stayed there for our friend Jeanies 50th. there was flowers and a bottle of wine on arrival, a wonderful touch. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh. We stayed in the attic, it was quiet, very clean and a wonderful vantage point for overhearing conversations in the street, albeit mostly dutch!! although we three needed copious amounts of oxygen...
