My wife and I spent 4 nights here. Check in was very easy as keys were in lock box out front. David stopped by to make sure all was good. The space is more than big enough for two people. The location is incredible. We were a 5 minute walk from Central Station and located right on one of the... More

We have stayed 6 nights in the back room and 1 night in the front room. Both rooms are excellent with your own bathroom, a small fridge, comfortable bed, flat screen TV and table and chairs. The location is fantastic close to Central Station from where you can easily get anywhere in the country, close to public transport and walking... More

We stayed 3 nights during mid of March. The apartment is centrally location & easily access from Central Train Station. Within walking distance to bus or tram stations. Conveniently located & within walking distance to numerous places of interest. Lots of good dining option around the area too. The room is spacious with windows overlooking a beautiful canal. David is... More

Arrived on the last night of Sail Amsterdam, so things were really hopping. David's directions from the Central Station were perfect. Rooms are a very nice size. Great location for exploring the city. Plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. If/when I return to Amsterdam, this is my first choice!

We stayed here for four nights in late July. We stayed in the front room and had a great view of the canal. The best aspect of this B&B was our experience dealing directly with the owner and host, David. He promptly responded to inquiries via email and was always available to answer questions. The room itself was very clean... More

Velvet Amsterdam is centrally located. The instructions given by David was easy to follow. We were thankful that we could check in at 10:00 am. As other reviewers have stated, this place is just outstanding. It is centrally located in the red light district. The stairs are indeed steep but David was there to help with bags. As other reviewers... More

This B & B is a short walk from the train station. We stayed in the front room with the water view. Both the room and the view are beautiful. This room overlooks and area with outside seating from nearby restaurants. I was afraid it would be noisy however noise was not a problem. The windows and curtains blocked any... More

We were so thankful that we came across Velvet Amsterdam for our stay. First, the location could not have been better. It's just a short five minute walk to Central Station (which is connected to the airport -- 15 minutes) and by tram line to other areas of town (for museums, etc.). We took a one day trip to Brugge... More

This B&B is in an excellent location. Very easy to find, host gives excellent directions. We arrived via train and had no issues finding this place. Host was there when we arrived and was very helpful. The host (david) lives upstairs and is there if you need anything, but is not hanging around - there are two rooms, we had... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
