If you care at all about health/hygiene and/or safety...absolutely do NOT stay here. The rooms were not cleaned whatsoever, beds incredibly close together and the staff was incredibly uninterested and not helpful at all. No elevator so you have to go up 5 flights of tiny spiral staircases just to get to your room. They charge deposits for everything, and...

My friend and I went to Amsterdam for three days and we stayed in meeting point. Is located literally in a party street, close to everything. Great place to go with your friends, a lot of young people and a lovely common area, the bar, where everything is cheaper than the other places around. You can start the party there...

The hostel was in a great location in the centre of town, the girl on the reception was very helpful and enthusiastic and the man on the reception also told us the best clubs to go to. It was basic hostel with decent beds and clean (to a standard) toilets/showers. The hostel lacked atmosphere and friendliness. If you're travelling solo...

The hostel was clean, well equipped for young backpackers, free wifi, decent breakfast in the morning etc. I felt safe and it was placed in a great part of Amsterdam for travellers, right by the station. Would definitely return

I don't know if it's because I've had excellent experiences of hostels in the past, but this place was a complete let down. The staff were unfriendly with absolutely no customer service skills, the rooms and bathroom were dark and dingy, it didn't feel at all secure and there was just no atmosphere. The only positive would be the location,...

Hostel was in a really good location, five minutes from the train station with loads of good places to eat/smoke nearby, and all the cultural things were not far either. Had to wait a while for my room to be ready but it wasn't too bad. The common area with the bar was very nice, and the smoking room at...

I've been travelling all my life in hostels and i was usually pretty lucky picking up the right one in the right spot all the time. This time was a disappointing experience; Room was always dark and never properly cleaned. Bathroom was a nightmare. No sharing kitchen, No bike parking. Not a great atmosphere at all. Only privilege is the...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
