Fantastic hostel for the price! Very central location, with a sociable and cheap bar and clean toilet facilities. Friendly staff are always eager to help, and it's only a 5 minute walk from the station. My friend and I were staying in the largest room (18 bed dorm), and although the beds were basic, we found the room to be... More

Stayed here with four friends, we are older guys and my first in a hostel. Hotel it isn't but that is what to expect. The staff are friendly and very very helpful. The room was a surprise as it had 18 beds all full. But again if thats what you are used to then its fine. The bed was comfortable... More

The Staff at this hostel was really nice and helpfully, breakfast was not included in price though and their was no kitchen. We stayed in a large mixed dorm it didn't look that great was a bit plain and boring you could hear all the noise from the street as well. But it was comforty night sleep and the showers... More

-Transport is easy because Amsterdam central train/tram station is 1 minute walk away. Can buy a 3 day transport card for €25. We walked most places but used trams to visit the parks -Hostel is pretty standard; great staff and friendly vibe. There is a smoking room that overlooks the canal which is bliss (photo below)

It is just a place to sleep. It does not invite you to be there for something else than that. However, taking into account that it is a hostel, it does not need much more. Okay, yes... maybe more wall sockets in the rooms, as there are only a few of them (2 or 3 for 10 people)

This was a great hostel to stay at for travellers as despite being very basic, it had a great location about 2 minutes walk from the Central train station. It was also situated right by a lot of bars and restaurants and the Red Light District. My friends and I stayed in an 18 bed dorm which was basic but... More

Upon reading other reviews about this hostel we were slightly worried, but I can honestly say I would go back and stay again. Great location for to everything, just off Dam square, the train station and the redlight district, also the staff were friendly and more than welcoming.

I stayed in a 18 bed dorm with 11 other people. The hostel is in a great location and all of its staff are very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was very standard but was fine. The hostel had a bar on the ground floor which was ok. Wifi was poor and only worked at the bar area and not... More

This hostel was a great place to stay for a few days. In terms of location it's very close to central station and a huge number of restaurants, and it's not difficult to find at all. There is always at least one member of staff available no matter what time of day and they will do what they can to... More

Stayed here 3 times. 5mins walk to central station, and pretty central to many bars! Only slight problem is the noise of people outside at night but you can put up with it for a night or two. Great value bar in the hostel. The rooms are very basic, but what do you expect when they are that cheap!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
