The biggest thing this place has going for it is the location. Showers are pretty musty, but the beds are clean. It was myself and 2 other friends. Our roommates were extremely obnoxious and down right loud and rude. But not something the hotel can really control. You have to pay for a locker, which is kind of garbage. Staff... More

Been coming to Amsterdam for the past 7 years around Christmas time. Absolutely love the city. Found this hotel/hostel on my second time out there, and been staying here since. Located perfectly in my opinion, surrounded by good deli's, bars and coffee shops, whether it's for a coffee or a... and makes a good base for visiting the suburbs and... More

I stayed in the Bulldog from the 25th – 29th of August in a double ensuite room. All staff members I interacted with very friendly & pleasant. The rooftop terrace is a lovely, relaxing place to hang out. The room was clean, very comfortable beds and perfect for our stay in Amsterdam. The beds were so comfortable I didn’t make... More

We reserved 2x private rooms of 10x. Nice welcome at reception with quick check in. Arrived to clean and fresh beds/loo. Rooms were a good size but lacked mirrors for the number of people staying. The hotel has a roof terrace too which was nice. Good breakfast. Great location. Very secure accommodation

I came here last weekend with my partner to celebrate his 21st birthday. It's in the heart of the red light district and is very relaxing warm and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and will answer any queries you may have. You can smoke in the lounge bar or rooftop terrace. People are asked for ID when arriving to... More

I stayed 3 days 2 nights, The room smelled musty, you have to ask for the shampoo and soap at the Lobby The staff is more rude than friendly, mainly in the Lobby. Breakfast: You can't take more than 2 eggs in the breakfast otherwise, one bold guy will make you return the additional eggs.

Hi there, Not a glowing review . Yes the FREE soap and shampoo are available at the reception desk. It is available for anyone to take 24/7. Our staff are trained pretty well. There are times when people try to take all the eggs back to their room or in a bag for later. So they do watch out for... More

First of all, I somehow got that sick room with the red carpet which was a cool surprise. But this place has so much to do without even having to walk to the nearest intersection. It's very clean, comfy, and well kept. If you're traveling alone, you meet some great people from all over. But I'd love to come back... More

Top staff, top atmosphere, top location. The place to stay. I have been staying here for about the last 15 - 20 years and the staff always remember me, particularly the lady with the red in her hair who always seems to be smiling, which is no mean feat given they'll see thousands of guests a year. A superb weekend,... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
