Stayed here on our Eurotrip with friends. This hotel is actually on the busiest street, and on the border of the red light district so lights and people are never out of sight and you always feel in holiday mode. The Belushi's bar that is inside is a perfect place to start of the night, many of the town pub...

I came to Amsterdam this weekend for my sisters hen night. 4 of us shared a room, it was basic but had a large ensuite wet room which was great and the beds were really comfortable, we were given fresh towels each morning which was a pleasant surprise and a continental breakfast is included which is a brilliant bonus. The...

My wife and I stayed at this property for one night. It is very well located, right in the vibrant heart of Amsterdam, close to all amenities and attractions. Initial impressions are very much of a traditional hostel; constant loud music, busy and crowded but that's pretty much what you should expect for the money, which is not cheap but...

I stayed here in June with my boyfriend for 2 nights in a private room which was decorated by one of the local artists (really cool). The room was spotlessly clean, a good size, bathroom was clean and towels were replaced each day. The atmosphere throughout the hostel was lively and welcoming; staff were very friendly and polite and made...

I stayed in the girl's dors for two nights. The only problem is the noise (because it's in one of the main street of red light district) but is a sacrifice that you may do if you want to be well placed. The hostel has a bar (Bellucci) with a great ambiance at night!!! I mean in the two nights that...

You don't need to go anywhere far from here. Red light district in your backyard, bar in the hostel, FANTASTIC food and affordable, great happy hour deals, club right next door (locals and tourist party there), good bar, a really cute bartender. Room was very clean- 3 girls stayed in a mixed dorm with 2 guys from Australia- fantastic roommates....

I stayed here for two nights with my boyfriend last week on a three day trip to Amsterdam. Overall we had a good experience of The Winston and would probably stay here again if we returned to Amsterdam. GOOD POINTS: -Great location: literally a two minute walk from Dam Square and really easy to find from the train station. So...

Stayed here on short notice on a busy weekend, booked last minute. Not an amazing price, but definitely the best of what was around. Short walk from the train station, Dam Square, the Damrak and right in the Red Light District. Room was compact, but had a view of the street. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was super...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
