Having stayed in my fair share of hostels I have to say well done. Normally I avoid the big chain hostels as they can be hit and miss over the normal excellence you get at independents. However, that said, this place was perfect. Central - location couldn't be any better Excellent staff - gave me a load a great recommendations... More

Came here on stag do....for the price it was excellent, same with location, right where you wanted to be. Rooms were good, hit & miss with shower strength, but clean & tidy. The downside is the noise depending where you are, but ear plugs help. Good bar/club as well which the hostel is above.

Let me just start by saying this; I do not stay in hostels often, and had it been solely up to me - I would opted for a hotel. Due to the trip being more of a budgeted plan, I was pleasantly surprised with the Winston Hotel. I had stayed in a few other hostels around Europe prior to arriving... More

Very clean and up to date hotel... some of the bar staff at the time were abit suspect. I think they are more americanized. In the uk we dont usually tip... so I guess thats why they was abit off... Garden was always busy and the food was good. Located around everything you need and not a bad little stop... More

I stayed her for one night (08-Feb'13). It offers everything that you can expect of a hostel. The crowd is predominantly young and lively, and people who have just come to have fun. But they are well behaved and cause no problem to anybody who may want to be left alone. Room and the bathroom were clean, They provide towel... More

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for the weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On the red light district so central to all the bars, coffee shops and dam square. We stayed in a twin room with a private bathroom. Although the rooms weren't anything special they were clean. Bar downstairs is great with smoking room if you enjoy... More

myself and a group of friends stayed here in October time, it was a great place for location, central near to Dam square, tram lines, and the street with all the cafes, restaurants and bars etc. (sorry cant remember name!) It was good price for Amsterdam, as we got the private twin rooms which where clean and fine for a... More

I stayed here in November and stayed in the robot inspired Japanese room. We seen soon brilliant looking rooms when we walked down the corridor and loved the theme to our room however the lighting was very bad and the bedding was damp. The staff were very friendly but the overall atmosphere wasn't amazing however staying in Amsterdam this wasn't... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
