This hostel is good for people who don't want the seedier aspects of Amsterdam right on their doorstep - it is located at the other end of town with the museums and culture, plus Vondel Park is just across the road. The hostel was nice enough and breakfast was good enough, but nothing was totally outstanding.

I was in the Flying Pig for about three days. Good bedrooms, with a lot of space and individual lockers. The location is good, but the downtown is a little closer to everything. They have good breakfast, staff is very nice and everything is very clean. The showers are small and sometimes it was too cold in there, but it...

I stayed at the flying pig uptown for 4 nights and definitely enjoyed my time. First thing, the location, located in a quiet (minus the ambulances every once in awhile) neighborhood right next to a walking/biking trail/park. It's about a 5 minute walk to, what I would consider to be, the heart of uptown where there are shops, restaurants, cafes,...

I heard nothing but great things about Flying Pig hostels so my friends and I decided to book with Uptown. There were no rooms left that could accommodate all of us so we had to split up which wasn't ideal. Overall experience was average; we were expecting something much more exciting from all of the good reviews. There was a...

This was my first hostel I stayed at in Europe, it was also the cheapest I've paid so far and I have not stayed at a better hostel since! Helpful staff, cool bar and snacks and pretty good location! Value for money as a buffet breakfast was included and it was awesome! Bonus! The only thing I would say is...

The Flying Pig is a relatively famous Hostel in Amsterdam. The one in the heart of the Red Light District is more well known, and more active as a party destination - but don't overlook the Uptown location! I would even say that the Uptown location is a better place to stay! The rooms are pretty small and not terribly...

There is very little space in the 6-bed dorm I stayed in. Also, note that some (perhaps all?) 6-bed dorms have a queen-size bunk which couples (or very close friends) rent, so you're effectively staying in an 8-bed dorm. The dorm was also very loud due to being next to the main stairwell - perhaps ask for a small room...

Found this hostel online and it looked awesome! 11 euros per night (sharing a queen sized bed for three nights). However, book online or quote the online price when you rock up as the guys behind the desk will charge you their everyday standard rate (we were almost charged 190 euro for two people for three nights!). So make absolutely...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
