Excellent Hotel and 5 star quality throughout. Location excellent by canals in centre of Amsterdam. Had a meeting here with client, service was very good and privacy was respected at all times. Was told the food and rooms are also excellent and highly recommended. Next time I will stay here myself.

We stayed in the De L'Europe from the 10th-12th Feb and from the moment we checked in we loved it. The staff were so friendly and happy throughout our entire stay, even the cleaning staff were amazing. Everything we could want/need was offered to us without us having to ask. They greeted us by name every time we walked in...

This is a well-renovated and managed grand property. We found the location particularly convenient, very useful as Amsterdam is such a great walking city. Front desk, housekeeping, and restaurant staff were well trained, polite, and professional as one would expect in a 5-star. I would like to call particular attention to Kostas who assisted us on many days in the...

This hotel hold special memories as we first stayed here in 1996 & spent the 1st 5-days of our honeymoon there in '97. We frequently visited after that, though hadn't stayed since it was refurbished. I'd booked the w/end as a birthday treat for my husband & I'm delighted to report that it's still one of the finest hotels &...

We came to De L’Europe for a short three-night weekend stay before my husband’s business in town the following week. We’re Leader’s Club members with LHW and the hotel’s location and photos really stood out to me on the LHW website. Simply put, photos and maps just don’t do this hotel justice, it’s amazing and I’m not easily amused. I’d...

We stayed in a Premium Deluxe Room and it was an excellent room. The bed was wonderful and the bathroom was beautiful. Room service is very slow and...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
