At Catalonia Vondel Amsterdam, the ambiance is frequently celebrated by guests who appreciate the tidy, well-appointed rooms with a touch of elegance, despite occasional signs of wear. Its prime location garners acclaim for being both central and peaceful. While the service is typically friendly and accommodating, there have been instances of dissatisfaction due to slow issue resolution.
Visitors often express that the hotel's rates don't quite match the perceived value, especially regarding room costs and breakfast. Cleanliness is a strong point, with special nods to pristine rooms and bathrooms, though some have pointed out that maintenance could be improved.

Detailed Reviews
We chose this hotel to stay as it was reasonably priced and close to the attractions we wanted to see. It was clean, rooms were fine (we booked the Executive Double Room) and while the elevator is small, it can handle one person with several bags of luggage easily. We chose not to have breakfast there but there is coffee in the rooms as well as a coffee service in the restaurant that you would pay for. We highly recommend this hotel, and we would stay there again. It is within easy walking distance to the museum district and the Anne Frank House.

My stay at the Catalonia Vondel Amsterdam was an overall pleasant one. Our party was 4 total, and we split into 2 rooms of 2. I was fortunate to get a large room on the ground floor, with abundant space for our suitcases and a luxurious bathroom. However, I got lucky - the other 2 in our party were placed in a much smaller, somewhat cramped room on an upper floor. While the rooms themselves were lovely and clean, the hotel itself was undergoing some renovations during our stay, making navigating the hallways difficult. It also meant the restaurant just to the left of the lobby was closed off, and we also were not permitted to enter the garden/courtyard behind the hotel. Other than that, the hotel is in a perfect location, just steps away from lots of restaurants, bars & museums, and the breakfast was delicious and had lots of offerings. Since I'm sure the renovation issues have been resolved by now, I definitely do recommend a stay here.

Had a great stay at this hotel, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and tidy. The location is great, with most attractions in Amsterdam within a short waking distance which is perfect if you’re sightseeing. We stayed in a large double room which was very spacious with a large TV and the beds/pillows were very comfortable. The only issue was that there was not enough storage space for clothes and we therefore had to keep some in our suitcase. The value for money is excellent and if we visit Amsterdam again we will definitely be coming back here!

Arrived room appeared clean enough windows were glued or locked shut. Pleasant enough stay, good location just lots of noise from hallway/ guests / loud music up above at all hours even though we were told the doors were sound proofed. Extra charge for coffee each morning to room didnt mind this though, upon arrival we were told to leave a card down that wouldn’t be charged as we paid package through easy jet, however on checking out woman never even took keys off us we had to prompt her and was very abrupt / strange experience. Landed home in uk to a charge on my card for £261 for a cleaning fee for smoking when the windows didn’t even open and the smoke alarm would’ve went off? Phoned hotel and they were less than accommodating and wouldn’t let me talk or state my case at all that we can be seen leaving the premises to smoke every time and they haven’t provided any evidence that we did this. We don’t smoke cigarettes at all so we knew this must be lies and anytime we took in the Amsterdam culture it was in the legal places to do so so explained we couldn’t help smell but hotel clearly stated the housekeeping had “found something” but won’t provide the proof. Absolutely outraged over £1000 for a holiday to be charged an extra £261 for absolutely nothing and abiding by hotel rules. Won’t be returning to this hotel. Also have come home itchy and have rashes over body believe another review commented the same previously. I am still waiting on contact back from hotel manager as I will be taking this further and contacted my bank about the situation.

We spent an intensive and nice week-end with my daughter and her friend in Amsterdam.
The location of this hotel is very good on a quiet street with a direct bus from the airport a few steps from the hotel. Museumplein and many restaurants and shops nearby. The breakfast was really good with fresh fruit and everything else essential.
We had an spacious executive double wih a bath tub, so nice to have a hot bubble bath after spending a busy day walking around the beautiful city. We also had booked a single room for my daughter’s friend and considering the small price difference to our room the room was very tiny, like a ship’s cabin and far too expensive to it’s size.

Hotel is in a perfect location, really close to museums and walking distance to majority of sightseeing spots yet tucked in a quiet beautiful street. Whenever we were tired from sightseeing /walking all day we just went to one of the many restaurants on Leideseplein square. We had a room on the upper floors, looking in on a courtyard, really quiet. Clean rooms. Good, comfy beds. Nice bathroom except for the exceptionally small sink, but we managed. Staff was very helpful and nice-took care of our baggage because we arrived early and brought us a mini heater because the weather was really cold at the time. Would definitely recommend it!

All in all, a very pleasant smaller hotel in Amsterdam. The location was excellent: on a quiet side street, just south of the canals and just west of the Museum Quarter, so an easy walk to both the museums and the canals. Lots of bars, restaurants and cafes in the vicinity, not all of them totally tourist traps--particularly, if you walked away from the Museum Quarter rather than towards it. Good public transportation connections to both the airport and the main train station. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was, as might be expected in Amsterdam, on the smaller side, but nicely furnished, with plenty of storage and a large, comfortable bed. Bathroom was small and a bit cramped, but with modern and very pleasant fixtures. The only negative I can say about the room was that the hotel wifi was painfully slow, making accessing the Internet reminiscent of experiences from 20 years ago. The breakfast buffet contained a wide variety of warm and cold, sweet and savory items, but at 21 Euros per person it was too expensive to do every day.

Just back from the Catalonia Hotel. Due to a KLM flight scheduling change we moved to the Catalonia from the Leonardo just across the street. The Catalonia Reception could not have been more helpful. They stored our luggage free of charge, changed a room for us, ordered a taxi and were overall very helpful and kind. The rooms were better than the Leonardo. If you have a choice, stay at the Catalonia.
At the Leonardo the check-in was rude, one word answers and questions, very unhelpful. There have been other reviews complaining about Reception at this hotel. Clearly Leonardo have not addressed the problem. We just found it easier to avoid reception all together.
At the Leonardo we had rooms 17 & 18 beside the breakfast area. There was a toilet between the bedrooms that was open 24 hours for all those using the hotel. It had visitors all through the night. Constant noise. Constant noise in the corridor and rooms above us on the first floor. The noise continued all through the night. We knew the Hotel was fully booked so there was no where to move us.
Even though the Catalonia was busy they found us another room on request, room 106. We stayed in Room 305. It was very well maintained Hotel, with excellent service. The Reception staff at the Catalonia were excellent, nothing was too much trouble.

I stayed in this hotel for 3 days and the stay was exceptional. Service has been really quick and good. With reception being 24/7, receptionists were upto the help all the time whenever required. Only thing I noticed is the rooms are of different sizes and some exceptions come with it as in my case, bathtub was missing in my room with respect to my colleague's but the area of my room was bigger.I only wish if this is mentioned prior to check-in so people can opt. Breakfast was really great. I would love to stay again when I'm back in Amsterdam!

This hotel is located near the Vondel park, within walking distance from the Leidensplein tram stop and the also very close to the Museumplein where the Rijks, Moco, van Gogh and other museums are located. Numerous restaurants, the Food Hallen and quaint shops are also within walking distance.
The rooms are modern, spacious, quiet and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we ever experienced and leaves nothing to be desired.
I highly recommend this hotel for a trip to amesterdam.
