I've booked a double room, I paid a very high price and I was given a mini room with separate beds. Everything was dirty: beds, moquettes, bathroom and so on. I've requested two more blankets as penguins would lived perfectly in my room, and I was given two white blankets with huge yellow spots (don't know what was that). I...

Stayed in a single room for a period of 4 days, room was tidy and enough for 1 person, cheap price in the most central location. Breakfast was your average continental, nothing special. Added bonus of being able to leave your luggage after you check out if you are leaving later in the afternoon.

We stayed for the weekend in the hotel with a family in January 2017 staying in 2 rooms. The hotel is located in a very noisy area, we couldn't sleep almost the whole night, as there were 2 big coffee shops in the area which remained open until 3 am. The hotel itself is very outdated and needs urgent refurbishment,...

The room was very noisy and there was a foul drainage smell in the corridors. Very unhelpful staff member at reception and also try to charge for late check out. The only good thing is the central location and housekeeping staff.

We went for a 30th Birthday and having been to Dam before we had seen this place and knew it was right in the centre of everything which is what we needed. I had a ground floor room and it was spacious and our bathroom was very big and sapcious too. As this was a birthday trip with loads of...

The hotel is situated in a great spot - the room was clean and comfortable, though as others have said, it has a tendency to get loud at night time. There is also a church very close and the bells are quite loud and frequent! For us however, the location was well worth putting up with it.

The hotel is based right in the centre of Amsterdam. Fantastic location! A few minutes walk from most things including sherlocked escape game, red light district and the shopping quarter. The street the hotel is on was quieter than I expected and I was able to have a great night sleep which I know other friends at different hotels didn't...

Fantastic, central location with only a 10 minute walk from the train station. Breakfast was good. The hotel was old but quirky. Our room was right next to the elevator which made it noisy all night. Only a 10 minute walk to hop onto a lovely canal boat and tourist buses. Plenty of eateries within a 5 minute walk. I...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
