Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.

This is a very small hotel squeezed into one of those classic mid-terrace properties in central Amsterdam. Barely enough room for a reception desk and breakfast was in a restaurant next door through and adjoining door, closed during the day. Having said that, the rooms were

I got a good deal on this hotel so price wise I was pleased, the room was average size for Amsterdam so those complaining it’s small this is standard for all hotels in the city unless you are in the really expensive chain hotels! The room was clean and bed comfy but couldn’t

Our stay at the Hotel De Gerstekorrel was not the best. To begin with we thought this was very ideal as it is right in the centre which was very handy, however this meant it was very noisy and we didn’t get much sleep especially with the single glassed windows. When we arrived I

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We can only hope that our guests read the information about our hotel prior to booking. Amsterdam is famous for its tall narrow architecture that makes up the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the most contiguous buildings built prior to the 19th Century. Our hotel is part of that heritage and therefore does not have a lift. However, we are sorry to learn that this was a surprise to you and your friends. We appreciate your thoughts on the height of the towel rack and will look into remedying that. We serve a European Continental breakfast that is included in the price of your reservation and includes Dutch specialties such as Gouda cheese and smoked ham. Perhaps you did not see the buffet table that included these specialties along with eggs, fresh fruit, toast and yogurt? Nonetheless, we are sorry to have disappointed your expectations for an English fry-up. We’re normally known for our exceptional attention to customer service, and we regret that we missed the mark for you and your friends.

Hotel De Gerstekorrel appeared to be a hotel - at point of booking - which would be perfect for a weekend away in Amsterdam for a couple of young women looking to enjoy the city. However, upon arrival at De Gerstekorrel we were met with a man who was extremely rude, we paid city

Thank you for your comments. We always hope that our guests have read the information about our hotel prior to booking. Amsterdam is famous for its tall narrow architecture that makes up the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the most contiguous buildings built prior to the 19th Century. Our hotel is centrally located in Amsterdam and is part of that heritage and therefore does not have a lift. We appreciate your safety concerns regarding your ability to fully open the windows in your room, but want to assure you that we have rooms for families that have childproof bars. As your reservation stated that you would be 3 adults we were not aware that this would be a problem for your group. We appreciate it when our guests let us know of any special requirements they may have prior to their arrival so that we can make certain that a room that best matches those requirements is reserved for them. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and we are sorry that we fell short of your expectations.

Location is everything here, right in the middle of the action. The hotel itself is perfectly good, the rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. Outside the hotel it is quite noisy but that is what you can expect in the center of town the noise in the rooms is not to bad. The

Our official check in time is 14:00, however, we frequently have rooms ready earlier. We suggest that you bring your luggage to the hotel for safekeeping as soon as you arrive in Amsterdam. At that time we will be able to inform you better as to what time your room can be ready. I hope this answers your questions, but if not, please do not hesitate to contact us again. We look forward to welcoming you to our hotel.
