The hotel is about a five minute walk, with luggage, from the Central station and easy to find. As with most hotels, reviews are very mixed. However, our attitude has always been that one doesn't spend much time at the hotel and so were willing to take the risk at what seemed like a reasonable price for a generally expensive...

We found the location great; short walk to central train station. The staff were excellent, very friendly and answered all our questions with out any problems. The room was clean and all we needed. Airconditioner was great and the building has a lift. The breakfast was good with out being spectacular. Highly recommended and good value for the price paid.

A genuinely good base from which to explore Amsterdam - just five minutes (on foot) from the city's main railway station (Centraal) and within walking distance of many attractions. (Given the city's relatively compact size you will never be far from: a tram stop, shops, restaurants, cafes, etc.) Hotel staff at reception were very helpful and available throughout the day...

Very small room for 2 people. Shower built to use entire floor so bathroom is all wet after each shower. Carpet was "Nasty" in many places. Breakfast was good except for scrambled eggs that seemed as if they were powered.

I chose this hotel after reading many reviews and noting it's proximity to the rail station and town. My single room was very small; and cozy. Many would say that it was TOO small ; but I fpund it perfect for my needs. the hotel is on the older side so expect a little noise in the halls and rooms,...

We stayed at the Avenue Hotel from April 29-May 4. Our room #098 was large, modern and facing the street. It was quiet even with the "Queen Day" activities. The location is close to everything especially the tram stop a short block away. The staff was professional, efficient and competent in arranging our tours, airport shuttle, restaurant suggestions, luggage storage and safe deposit reservations. The...

Our room wasn't huge but was quite comfortable and very clean, as was the bathroom. The hotel is in easy walking distance to everything with many restaurants nearby. The breakfast had more than ample offerings to choose from and everything we had was very nice. We found all the staff very friendly and helpful and we'd happily stay there again.

ok,as the title suggests,we're all now a little passed our sell buy date. with this in mind we like simple pleasures ! The Avenue Hotel suits this perfectly, with spartan accommodation the rooms are what they are, somewhere to get your head down after a hard days pontificating about Industrial strength European beer, though the hotel manages to keep a...

It appears that your experience really depends on which room you stay in. Mine was the first floor located directly next to the lobby. In fact, it was the only room on that floor! However, it was HUGE. I didn't pay any extra or request the room, just got lucky I suppose. I found the breakfast to be very good....

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A number of historic buildings make up the Avenue Hotel. Part of these premises even dates back to the 17th century. An interesting fact about the building: during the Golden Age it was used as a warehouse by the 'V.O.C.' (United East India Company). Since that time the building has had many different owners and served different purposes. It has now turned into a hotel, that is up to contemporary standards. The rooms are divided over the different parts of the hotel so they all have a unique style and shape. You can reach all floors by elevator. Our 3 star-hotel has 82 comfortable rooms. Furthermore we offer free WIFI-connection and continental breakfast. All our rooms come with a flatscreen-tv, private bathroom with shower and/or bath, airconditioning and a desk. Discover numerous sights in the vicinity of the Avenue Hotel: Dam Square, the Red Light District, The Nine Streets, the canals and several shopping streets can be reached by foot. The hotel staff will gladly answer your questions about the public transport system, museums and excursions. The best way to explore Amsterdam is by bike, we also offer you the posibility to rent a bike. In the video below you will see why this is te best way to explore Amsterdam ... more   less
