This hotel's location is brilliant, it's a great base to explore the city from. It's a cheap, budget hotel... People saying it's "tired and dirty" need a bit of a reality check versus how much other hotels in the same location charge to have fresher paint and more glam! It's a perfect hotel for on a budget, rooms were comfortable, shower was hot and had good pressure... What more do you need for a weekend break in Amsterdam to rest your head at night after taking in this amazing city! We were a bit apprehensive about the stairs after reading reviews on here, but they're fine!... Just keep your head down and keep climbing! Would return to Di-Ann for another weekend in Amsterdam!

Staff weren't the most friendly - shouted quite a bit and never greet you. Stairs are hefty and no lifts, I’m a healthy 21 year old, and I struggled it took me about 10 minutes to get up to the second floor. Bathroom smelt strongly of sewage the whole time. Pillows had no pillow cases on and both mine and my partners face has come out in a rash. Constant noise from the trams outside makes it difficult to sleep - though this isn’t the hotels fault. No coffee/tea machine in room.

However, the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the Centre and is ideal for people who are not looking to spend time in the hotel except for sleeping. TV had English channels and there was adequate heating. It was an okay stay but would not recommend.

I visited Amsterdam for 4 days in February to celebrate my best friends birthday! Hotel Di Ann was perfect- being two young women who were first time travellers, it was so reassuring to have such lovely hosts who provided us with lots of knowledge about Amsterdam :) We felt incredibly safe and looked after, especially by the lovely lady working on reception who helped us get to the arena to watch the Jonas Brothers concert, she provided us with directions and called the taxi service for us etc. For the price we payed, we really didn’t expect this much effort and service. The location was absolutely perfect for visiting all of the major attractions, the rooms were basic but very practical. The stairs were a bit difficult after a few drinks 😂, but it just added to the memorable moments ! My favourite part of this hotel is the little balcony on the second floor which was available for all guests to use, on the last day (whilst waiting for our return flight) we sat on the balcony, observing the beautiful city below. I highly recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Amsterdam.

BED BUGS

I want to warn everybody planning to stay in this hotel. I wish I had done my homework a bit better. After my stay last week I got itchy red spots all over my upper body and face (!!). When thoroughly checking the reviews (not only the first 2 as I did before my stay) I noticed that there have been 9 complaints on bed bugs in the last 1.5 month (on Booking). The hotel must know this! And they do nothing about it. Instead, they try to mask the smell with an aroma diffuser in the room. Also, I remember there was a bloodstain in the bedding. So stupid of me, but the alarm bells just didn’t ring yet... I just didn’t expect bed bugs would be a thing in the Netherlands. Well, lesson learnt.

I called them, but the receptionist just said there were no other complaints about bed bugs. I sent an email with some pictures of all the red spots and asking for a refund, but still haven’t received a response after 3 days. It seems like they don’t take this seriously at all. In my opinion they should close down immediately to let a professional company solve this before letting any more guests stay here.

On the 15th September 2022 four friend and myself travelled to Amsterdam for a three night stay. I had previously stayed in the hotel diann just over 10: years ago. I recommended this hotel to my friends as it was lovely originally. To our horror the place was dreadful. Flickering lights in the corridors. Badly lit rooms. Bathroom filthy with shower curtain hanging off it’s rail. The fridge in our room was so dirty, not to be used. I shared a room with two of my friends. They shared a double bed I was in the single one. During the night I felt what I thought was a midge crawling on me. We discovered next day it was bed bugs. One of the girls was absolutely covered in bites. We actually saw the bugs moving about the bed. We complained to the manager who offered us another room, but we thought if one room has bugs they all will. He offered us alternative accommodation but when we checked in trip advisor that hotel had very bad reviews. We asked for a refund and after an argument and then booking.com intervened we have were assured a refund would be made. We stayed in the reception area whilst trying to find alternative hotel. Luckily just as a new hotel was found the management switched to WiFi off so we couldn’t look up any accommodation. During this time the hotel cat was filmed by one of our group with a mouse in its mouth. This is when the manager told us we had to leave the building. Fortunately for us we had just found another hotel. When we read reviews on the hotel as far back as 2019 bed bugs were been reported in this hotel. How can they manage to stay open? They are a health hazard. Avoid at all costs. We were paying 80 euros per night for this filth

Yesterday night we stayed at Di Ann Hotel in Amsterdam just for one night. We paid a total of 192 euros, not the cheapest hotel in the area and disappointment cannot even begin to describe what we felt. When we arrived at the hotel room we were disgusted by the filth that there was present. Bed covers were dirty and had a wet feeling when you touched them, the duvet was covered in big staying, there was only one plug available and the room looked nothing like the picture. What is more, the room was covered in dust and soundproofing was not even in the plans for them. To give you a better vibe think of a creepy motel in the middle of nowhere. To add to this disaster the window that was facing the road was so thin that you felt like you were sleeping on the side of the road. Correct me if I am wrong but hotels are supposed to provide the necessities for your stay, towels, and toilet paper, well this one didn't have any. I have been working in the hotel industry for a few years now and I have been traveling from a very young age. The only thing I can say is that I have stayed in a cabin in the ASmaxon forest and not only was it cleaner and we actually enjoyed our stay it was also way cheaper. When I said to the receptionist all of my problems they just told me they will pass it along. I don't think it's going to lead somewhere, in my opinion, this place has to be closed down its a matter of public health, and calling it a scam is very generous.

Warning!! It is the only hotel in the Netherlands that has not accepted to refund us despite the lock down imposed in the Netherlands. Although they will not need to provide any service to us, that we have booked two rooms, they did not accept to refund us, even a partial refund or at least a voucher. They seem to not have any understanding of the covid situation and they are not willing to find a solution that could be convenient to both. Really impolite and very very bad policy!

I read a lot of poor reviews before coming here so my expectations were low but this hotel surprised me very pleasantly! The location is absolutely amazing as the other reviews say, literally a 5 minute walk to the Dam and so many cafes, restaurants, shops etc. are very close. The room was surprisingly spacious for what we expected, you can comfortably move around and store your stuff even with 3 beds. The room and bathroom were very clean and tidy and our sheets and towels were changed every day, even on a Sunday. Beds were very comfortable and there are blackout curtains so sleeping was no problem. There was no AC as the hotel stated but the temperature in the room was perfectly pleasant, only one day was hot because the weather was warmer in Amsterdam but it was manageable. We didn’t have any problems with bugs in the room even with keeping our windows open the entire day. Yes, there is noise coming from the street but honestly what do you expect from a hotel in the heart of the city. Apart from that there wasn’t any noise from other rooms, it felt as if we were alone on the floor. The only downside are 3 very steep and narrow sets of stairs but we came here expecting them (again, you’re coming to Amsterdam you should know how buildings here work) so it wasn’t too bad. The staff was really friendly and approachable, always greeted us and helped. Overall, if you want to find cheap accommodations in the middle of Amsterdam this is ideal, highly recommend 👍

Oh where to begin...

No curtains in one of the rooms, just see through nets
Mouldy rotten fridge in one of the rooms (the other room didn't have a fridge)
Rooms look nothing like the ones in the photos
Dirty stained bed linen & towels
Cat hair all over bed
Shower was absolutely disgusting
Owners/guys at reception extremely rude & unhelpful

After sleeping there the first night, two of the girls were bitten by bed bugs. One of the girls had a couple of bites whereas the other was covered head to toe in bites!! We complained to reception as we had another two nights booked at this hotel (if you can call it that). They tried to put us in another hotel down the road which also had reports of bed bugs! We asked for a refund so we could find alternative accommodation & he said he couldn't, we'd have to go through booking.com as that's who we booked it with. So rang booking. com who confirmed that the hotel had already received the payment as it was booked in 2019 and any refund would have to be given by the hotel. They eventually agreed to refund us the difference of the booking as we stayed there one night. They allowed us to sit in the lobby whilst we tried to find other accommodation which proved difficult as there was an event on but then turned the Wi-Fi off on us & then, the icing on the cake, the hotel cat runs into the lobby with a mouse in it's mouth!!! See photo!!

3 hours wasted.

We stupidly didn't read the reviews before going but having read them now, it looks like the issue with bed bugs dates back to 2019!!

This hotel should be shut down! It is absolutely disgusting & unhygienic.

Hello, We are budget hotel with basic facilities. Hotel has no elevator and narrow, steep stairs . This is typical for old houses in Amsterdam . Some guests do not read hotel description and check pictures but book for cheap price and later are disappointed. We do our best to accommodate our guests to feel themselves comfortable. Kind regards,
