Stayed here while on a bus tour for two nights. Rooms were nice and clean. Breakfast was awesome. Elevators were small and slow which made getting to and from the room a test of patience. Staff was very friendly. Would definitely recommend

We have recently returned from a 3 night stay in this hotel. Check in was very efficient, with staff upgrading our room as we arrived early and no others were available. I also mentioned that it was my husband's birthday and they offered us a free welcome drink. Upgraded room was very comfortable, albeit a little small, with the great addition of a nespresso machine and a mini bar fridge with some complimentary soft drinks. All staff were extremely helpful throughout our stay. Bar was nice, although a little pricy but no more so than I'd expect from a hotel bar. We didn't eat in the restaurant. My main questions before visiting, which I didn't really see answered on other reviews were in relation to transport. I would definitely recommend getting an uber to and from the airport. The hotel had advised us that they had a partnership with a local taxi firm at 35 euros, but the uber was only 28. Despite my initial concerns about the distance from the centre (and I do agree to some extent that the word "City" in the title is a little misleading!), we weren't as isolated as I had first feared. The metro station is a short walk out of the hotel and only 5 or so stops into Centraal Station. A single journey is just over 3 euros and tickets can be bought at reception or at the station. A day pass is 8 euros for 24 hours. The hotel also provides two different canal boat routes - 9.30am goes to the Rijksmuseum and 10.00am to Centraal Station, both lovely routes and at 6 euros a person, much cheaper than an official canal tour (you even get headphones and commentary!). It was a shame that there wasn't more of a local area around the hotel, with bars or shops, but as I mentioned, the hotel bar is very nice and there's a small food shop in the reception where you can buy snacks and local delicacies.

I recently stayed at this hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted with a lovely member of staff called RiK, he was fantastic, he upgraded us free of charge due to it being our anniversary. Hotel very clean modern and quiet. Fantastic location as 5 minutes from metro which takes you straight into Amsterdam central. Would definitely stay again. Overall exceptional staff, great hotel, fantastic location.

We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of July/beginning of August when visiting Amsterdam. The hotel is clean and tidy, the staff attentive, and the rooms comfortable. The rooms are also air conditioned which, given the recent heat wave, was most welcome after a day of exploring the city. We did ask for a room high up when we booked so were given the 3rd floor - apparently the higher rooms are reserved for members. The food in the restaurant on site was nice, albeit a little expensive - however that's the price of convenience I suppose. The bar is also lovely with a couple of beers on draught, and a selection of wines and spirits - however this too is quite pricey so be aware. The metro station is a 10 minute (ish) walk away from the hotel, however we preferred to walk across the bridge and up the shopping street to the tram stop when we travelled into the centre. We did also walk it one morning, however if you plan to do so, be prepared to walk for an hour and a half or so. The one and only gripe we had whilst staying there was that we asked house keeping not to bother making up our room on one morning, and they took this to mean the remainder of our stay. This included when we asked for towels and tea/milk - it simply didn't arrive. A small gripe - an otherwise lovely stay.

We stayed in the Mercure 2 weeks ago for two nights. I could find no fault at all with this lovely hotel. It was very easy to get to, 6/7 minutes walk from the main subway into Amsterdam to link with the trams etc. Our check in was seriously efficient and took no more than 5 mins, and that was for two rooms. The bar staff were top class, very friendly and nothing was a problem. The rooms were so clean and I never thought that they were in any way small. On our first night we came back after walking to a local concert and my daughter had had nothing to eat developing a migraine but there was no food available. The night staff went and got some cereal and milk to make sure she had something to eat. I'm not sure who they were but I would really like to thank them for what they did. I'll admit I was a little nervous about staying in the Mercure with such mixed reviews but I can only speak from personal experience and I would highly recommend this lovely hotel with amazing staff.
