We chose, through Air France Holiday Services, to stay at this hotel for the second year in a row. Our room on the 2nd floor was the same as the 6th with one main difference - we could not open a window. Without the fan, we would have been very uncomfortable. That said, the hotel/rooms are very clean; the staff... More

The best feature of this hotel is its great location followed by the friendliness and courteousness of the front office staff. They try to do their best but, unfortunately, I wouldn't rate it as a 4-star establishment. The features in the room are quite minimal - not much cupboard/drawer space, no minibar, only a shower cap and small body lotion... More

the hotel has a great location looking the big square , and 5 minutes away from the central station , it couldn't be more central really, rooms aren't very big and they didn't have an AC, but it wasn't bad after all, we had a good stay so far

The only thing that differentiates this from budget accommodation is the price. The airconditioning didn't work, the doors were half painted, the furniture chipped and damaged. Someone's smelly socks left under the sofa bed. Room very small and extremely noisy. All unpleasant. Having said that, the front office staff were friendly, if somewhat forgetful and although they promised to get... More

This hotel is right down the street from the train station and you can take the trolley across the street to the museum and red light districts. Also walking distance to Anne Frank house. Rooms are good size and ok. Staff is friendly and helpful. Try the numbered steaks in the restaurant.

the hotel in general is fine but it isn't a 4* hotel, staff is polite and helpful our room was quite big but with a massive lack of light! only a tiny lamp for the whole room!! anyway the bathroom was pretty big too and the view was just facing the royal palaca which was nice but noisy sometimes. as... The room was tiny, dull, poky. Had no drawers at all and few facilities. The staff were uncaring and the lift was broken for almost our whole stay and we were on the 4th floor. No one helped the guests drag heavy bags up flights of steep stairs. If you want to pay 4 star prices for a 2 star... More

I visit Amsterdam alot, perhaps too much (8~>). Usually I saty at the Bellevue, but they screwed up my reservation last time so I decided to try another hotel. After shopping around I found that the Port was actually cheaper for the July weekend I wanted. I was worried about this hotel after reading some of the negative reviews on... More

Tram stopped right outside and only a 10 minute walk to Central station, this was a great central location for sightseeing in Amsterdam. Hotel staff were nice and very helpful, even answering our emails in English giving us loads of information, even down to the tram numbers. The food was lovely and we feel that for the little extra we... More

Stayed 2 nights and very dissappointed in this hotel. For the money (c£250) I was expecting at least a reasonable room without holes in the sheets, little space and no double glazing. Very noisy when the street woke up in the morning. Breakfast was e19 and then you had to pay tax on top! Very scary lady in the bar... More

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Die Port van Cleve is a famous Dutch hotel located directly behind the Royal Palace & facing Dam Square. Due its central location, you will find many touristic and cultural sites within walking distance. Hotel Die Port van Cleve has a rich history. Heineken opened its first brewery in this building in 1864. Brasserie ‘De Poort’ is famous for its numbered steaks and Bar-Bodega ‘De Blauwe Parade’ has an unique Delft blue tile fresco dating from 1887. At the beginning of 2012, rooms were soft refurbished and all rooms were redecorated with references to the authentic tile fresco in the bar. ... more   less
