The Hotel is ideally centrally located just behind the Dam Square – so 1 minute walking. There are few taxi parking lots and a tram station just in front of the hotel. Not a big hotel, but in a quite elegant building. The room was clean, not too large but pretty comfortable, air conditioning system worked perfectly. Bathroom was clean... More

Rooms are very small a kind of bedroom where one sits on the bed whilst the other passes to the bathroom. Bathroom very small. We enjoyed our stay at Die Port van Cleve, especially as it is so central within the city. The room was very nice, with plenty of space and a lovely balcony looking onto the city (we suspect it was the only room with a balcony). Staff were helpful and were great at answering any questions we had. The lift was... More

Very small rooms with a view to the other rooms in a backyard - no privacy at all - it is not worth more than 2 stars - it smelled of marihuana when we arrived - too expensive - the only posive thing is the very central location

Just got back from 3 night stay in this hotel. The hotel has the amenities of a 4star but as far as comfort goes only a 2star. We had room 229 which faced into a courtyard and other bedrooms and this meant that you had to have the curtains drawn on a night or provide a peep show. During the... More

This hotel is in a great location in Central Amsterdam. When you go out of the hotel, the tram stop is literally outside the building. The Centraal Station is about a 10 minute walk or a 3 minute tram ride. I would suggest that you buy one of the "I Amsterdam" city card so you'll get a free canal cruise,... More

Had a great time staying here. The location is great. Close enough to the train station and right next to the Dam and the city center. Next door is a shopping center with a store that sells tickets for bus rides and events for a cheaper rate than usuall. The room is nice and clean. A pretty nice place to... More

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Die Port van Cleve is a famous Dutch hotel located directly behind the Royal Palace & facing Dam Square. Due its central location, you will find many touristic and cultural sites within walking distance. Hotel Die Port van Cleve has a rich history. Heineken opened its first brewery in this building in 1864. Brasserie ‘De Poort’ is famous for its numbered steaks and Bar-Bodega ‘De Blauwe Parade’ has an unique Delft blue tile fresco dating from 1887. At the beginning of 2012, rooms were soft refurbished and all rooms were redecorated with references to the authentic tile fresco in the bar. ... more   less
