While the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam boasts a prime location in central Amsterdam, some guests have raised concerns about noise, particularly in lower floor or street-facing rooms. Although service generally receives high marks for attentiveness and professionalism, a few visitors have reported instances of slow responses. The hotel's sophisticated atmosphere and immaculate cleanliness are consistently praised, as are the luxurious amenities it offers. However, the value proposition of the hotel is questioned by many travelers who cite overpriced services and unexpected charges.

Room: Nice and spacious. Had a family room with lots of space and modern furnishings.
The TV program was rather poor. The glass in lift NO3 could do with cleaning, even if it is sometimes difficult to access.

Breakfast: Nice, large room with a good selection of fruit, vegetables, cold cuts, fresh eggs and smoothies. Tea or coffee is brought to the table. Small Asian breakfast also available.
Some of the staff are attentive, but sometimes you only have the opportunity to order coffee on your own initiative after breakfast.

Staff: Mostly very friendly, such as Alberto from reception and Aziz as concierge.
Another concierge was rather annoyed and uniform (the one person we had), while I was asking a question another phone was answered (without apology) and nothing was explained without a specific question. I felt a bit fobbed off. Like at breakfast, it was mixed.

Room service:
Back from the excursion at 3 p.m. and the room wasn't made up yet. The food in the hallway from room service, which we saw in the hallway the evening before, was still there the next morning.

On the other hand, on the following days it was always done on time and well. I think it was due to a short-term shortage of staff.

Overall:
Great central location - but the noise level was rather loud due to traffic, hustle and bustle and the bar next door - that's the logical price to pay for the central location.

I'm taking off 1 point because there were always things that could be improved - for this price/star/class, I think it's important to create a feel-good effect.

Never been to Amsterdam before so thought I'd give it a try for our wedding anniversary this year. I chose the hotel due to its location and reviews.

I emailed the hotel prior to arrival and responses were always prompt and very helpful and gave me a very positive feeling pre stay.

I booked a canal view suite as I had seen reviews about noise from the views out the front that overlook the square. I'm glad that I did, because even though we were on the third floor we did hear street noise.

On arrival we were personally showed to our room which was a nice touch and added to the experience, there was a bottle of wine and a happy anniversary chocolate for us, again a nice touch.

Staying in the suite gives you €100 credit for the hotel café and bar as well as a return transfer to the airport. The room very well appointed with high quality toiletries. I felt the shower was a bit of a let down and the rainfall part wasn't as good as in other hotels I've stayed in. Also the refillable shower gel, shampoo and conditioner bottles aren't great, and as they're constantly getting reused the pump isn't great, we reported to housekeeping and she replaced the pump and left the bottle out of the holder for us, which was very good of her. She herself said that it's a problem, so maybe management could look at different quality dispensers as I've not previously encountered this, my initial thoughts were the bottle was empty as nothing was coming out.

Food in the breakfast area and the breakfast room itself is lovely, and a good selection is available. I thought some guests very selfish turning up at 11am when breakfast ends. I'm amazed they weren't turned away.

All staff that we encountered during our stay were exceptional and they're all a credit to the hotel, we didn't unfortunately have time to use the spa so I can't comment on that aspect. Evening turn down service also great as was the little Christmas tree in our room.

The location is great with lots of shops bars and restaurants all within striding distance.

Both Finette Veldman and Jill de Munck were very helpful providing information before our arrival and taking details on pillow preferences.

Should we ever return to Amsterdam it would definitely be to this hotel.

Thanks for a great stay

Magnificat Downtown Hotel Review

Wow—where do I even start? Our stay at the Magnificat Downtown Anantara hotel in Dam square was absolutely incredible and far beyond what we expected. From the moment we checked in, we were blown away by the attention to detail and the little touches that made it so special.

Let’s talk about the fancy Amouage toiletries first—hands down, the fanciest I’ve ever seen in a European hotel. They smelled amazing and felt like something you’d find in a luxury spa. It’s such a small thing, but it really made us feel spoiled. The Spa room and service were just perfect.

And then there was the breakfast buffet. Honestly, it was the best I’ve had in Europe. The selection was huge; fresh pastries, cheeses, fruits, juices, and even made-to-order omelets and crepes. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted amazing.

The staff were warm and welcoming, the rooms were spotless and elegant, and the location couldn’t have been better for exploring the city. This hotel has set the bar so high, I don’t know if anywhere else will ever compare. We’ll definitely be back!

Several questions come to mind when reviewing this hotel:

-Do you give a hotel with over 400 rooms a pass because it’s so large?
-Does the large size (which necessitates a large staff) mean that little incorrect items here and there should be expected (even if fixed)?
-Does the large hotel and its location in Dam Square mean they need club bouncer style guys in front for security?

I don’t know the answers to any of the above but these are the questions I’m asking myself. The room was ready early which I was very grateful for. The person escorting me through the maze of a hotel (note my reference to 400+ rooms) was very nice but not 100% confident with the directions. The check out noted there was a spa charge when it was from a previous guest earlier in the week or starting next week. The online check out didn’t work. The cleaning lady asked if she he could clean the room that suited her schedule rather than being more invisible (I recognize there are 400 rooms, one must keep a schedule).

In sum, my humble advice is to pay 25-50% more and stay at one of the more upscale hotels like De L’Europe or Waldorf. Nothing particularly wrong here just the size throws everything off. It’s hard to steer a Titanic with precision so I don’t knock them too hard but wouldn’t personally stay again.

Dear dshe5439, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent stay with us. We truly appreciate the depth of your review and the candid nature of your feedback. We understand that the scale of our hotel can present certain challenges, and your observations highlight areas where we can continue to improve. Our goal is always to deliver exceptional service, regardless of our size, and we regret the inconveniences you encountered, whether it was navigating the property, the incorrect spa charge, or the miscommunication with our cleaning staff. These are all important points, and we will address them with the appropriate teams to ensure better experiences for future guests. We are glad that your room was available early and that you had positive interactions with our staff, though we acknowledge that the size of the property may have affected your overall experience. Your understanding of the complexity of managing such a large space is much appreciated, and while we strive for precision, we recognize that there is always room for improvement. While we regret that we weren’t the ideal fit for your stay, we value your feedback and hope that your time here had its highlights. If you do return to the area, we would be delighted to welcome you back and ensure a smoother stay. Thank you again for your review, and we wish you the very best in your future travels. Warm regards, Arne Heuwekemeijer General Manager

The hotel is beautiful, it is in an excellent location, staff is friendly, and the breakfast was good. However, we paid extra and upgraded to a “premium” room and there were many fruit flies in the bathroom, the hotel room was NOT cleaned well after the last guest as there was trash on the floor, hair on the floor, on the bed, in the shower, and in the toilet room, the workers made a ton of noise at all hours, and the bed was so hard we couldn’t sleep and our backs hurt the whole time. Everyone else in our group also complained about the beds. Because of the beds and lack of cleanliness I wouldn’t stay here again and don’t know how this hotel is rated as a 5-star hotel.

The hotel has a wonderful position on Dam Square which makes it so central. Warm welcome from Concierge taking our cases on arrival. Ushered through to Reception for check-in which was quick and easy. A young lady showed us to our room and helped explain the lighting, temperature control system, coffee machine and bathroom facilities. Although we had a rear facing room with views over the hotel roofs this was not important for our short stay.
The shower was very efficient with immediate hot water and was easy to use. SAFETY : As an elderly man with balance issues, i would have welcomed a discrete wall handle on the side of the shower. We loved the large soft towels provided. The king-size bed was really comfortable and had two decent pillows. The flat screen TV was well positioned on the wall in front of the bed. I was impressed to find that the ceiling mounted fire alarms are regularly tested as I noted when engineers visited our room.
The breakfast buffet was fantastic with a great variety of fruit, cereals, meats, cheeses and pastries tantalisingly displayed. It was lovely to enjoy unlimited freshly squeezed orange juice. The hot buffet was equally prolific and well presented. SAFETY : no handrail for the steep steps at the entrance (other staircases on the ground floor also need review.
Overall this was a most enjoyable visit and i would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to family, friends and business colleagues.

In my opinion, this hotel is not a five-star but deserves more than 4 stars. Suite overlooking the spacious and functional dam square. Unfortunately the heating did not work and they fitted us with electric radiators. Not very pro allocating a room with a heating defect that was known to the technical team!!!
The rooms overlooking the square are to be avoided because the suite was very noisy at night because in front of a bar and also in the morning very early (delivery, garbage....). So we slept very poorly. Room service very average , we ordered Caesar salads which had ceasar only in name and which were not hearty.
The positive is the hotel s location as you can do all the sightseeing on foot.
Breakfast station hall but hearty.
So very disappointed with the anantara chain.

The Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is all you would expect of a luxury modern five star hotel. Located on Dam Square it benefits from being a stones throw away from everything the centre of Amsterdam has to offer and is only a short walk from Amsterdam Centraal station.

The room interiors are clean, modern and stylish and the public spaces are comfortable and contemporary. The hotel is very impressive ... but its the staff that impressed me most and they take the hotel experience to a whole new level.

The staff seem genuinely happy and are always helpful and attentive. Its the little things like a smile or a 'good morning' when you pass someone, putting the hotel slippers on a towel beside the bed during turndown or even fluffing up the tissues in the bathroom twice a day and obviously everything in between. Nothing seems to be too much trouble.

Breakfast is taken in the bright and airy Wintergarden which is a wonderful space and the choice and quality of food is simply amazing. The selection includes sparkling wine, a wide selection of pastries, cheeses, yoghurts, fruit, cereals, meats, breads, preserves through to smoked salmon and mackerel. They even have a fresh orange juice machine, a barista and a chef cooking eggs and omlettes etc.

We made the visit to celebrate Valentines Day and the hotel kindly decorated our room with balloons and rose petals, followed by a chocolate platter the following day.

To me, the level of service provided is genuine, effortless and exceptional and because of this, I will always return to "The Kras" whenever I stay over in Amsterdam.

I cannot rate or recommend this hotel highly enough.

everything is overpriced, from the rooms, to the room service, they want you to tip them just for bringing up mediocre food to your room. the price online is more than what your told in person which was a shock! the only good thing is the location of the hotel and the view if you get a dam room view. Everything else was meh and i wouldn't stay in this hotel again. I had to ask the concierge to have somebody actually clean my room TWICE! this is suppose to be a luxury hotel..

Hi Paul You can Go in with pet . No more than 25 kilos. 50 € a day rate. But they have a small capacity of receiving pats. You have to contact the hotel for checking if there’s a possibility to bring pats at the date you like to book. Max. 2 pats per room allowed.
