The Lancaster Hotel Amsterdam is often recognized for its staff's friendly and helpful service, which includes secure luggage storage and aid with city navigation. While the hotel boasts a convenient and central location near public transport and attractions, some guests find the rooms small, dark, and not well-equipped, leading to discomfort due to noise and cleanliness issues.
Opinions on value for money and noise levels vary, with some travelers feeling the hotel is overpriced and others enjoying quiet rooms. The atmosphere is generally appreciated, and while amenities are deemed satisfactory, they are also seen as basic.

Hotel's Favorite
Our family of 7 (ages 18-75) enjoyed this hotel. The staff was incredibly helpful and answered our many questions and were even able to accommodate an early check in (unexpected but greatly appreciated). We took advantage of the breakfast, which is in a lovely breakfast room overlooking the garden. Eggs, meats, various breads, homemade jam & granola, cappuccino/latte machine. The rooms were clean and well-appointed for our needs.
The only issue we had was that it was exceptionally hot one day of our stay and the window in one of our rooms only opened a little so it was hard to cool down. The other rooms had different window configurations so they were fine. However, the staff were able to provide us with an extra fan which helped.
The location was great for us, safe, quiet and charming. It was right across the street from the zoo, which has a lovely plaza where we enjoyed relaxing (don't need admission to the zoo). Botanical garden just down the street, also near the Resistance Museum. Several good cafes are nearby, and it is right on the tram line. It is outside the main touristy area, which was a plus for us, but easy to get to.
We would stay here again and highly recommend.

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed it. The room [007!] was very small but the bed was really comfortable and clean. It was at pavement level and was noisy [traffic and zoo animals!!] if we opened the window, but that wasn't a problem in December. There were a safe and tea/coffee making facilities and the television had a good selection of channels. The bathroom, also small, was fine with good quality toiletries, although the water pressure in the shower was a bit low. The location was good - a gentle 15 minute stroll into the very centre of Amsterdam, or hop on the tram which went to the central station.
There were some great bars nearby, so we didn't have a nightcap at the hotel, nor did we have breakfast there. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful: they called us a taxi for the airport - a luxurious and new Mercedes which cost only 25 Euros, cheaper than any of the shuttles we found online.

We stayed here for 3 nights for a birthday/valentines break away from the UK.. the self check in process was nice and easy and one of the best check in process’ I have seen in a long time! The location was good with easy access to the trams taking you all over and for us to walk into the main square it took less than 20 minutes and even late at night we felt safe walking around the neighbourhood. The reason I haven’t given a 5 is the rooms.. the door only had the bog standard lock no double lock so I must say I did feel a bit on edge with that. The rooms are noisy if people are walking up and down the corridor it sounds like they are in your room (although none from the outside of the hotel which is good) and the our double bed was two singles. However the rooms were tidy and I think we were very lucky with the size of our room as it was a good size (we were only there to sleep)
Would recommend for location, price and friendly staff

We stayed here for two days and it is in a great location.
Location:
Its a stones throw away from tram 14 which will take you to the center of town.
Breakfast:
The breakfast was lovely and it was nice to see that the hotel use's local farms produce.
Room:
We stayed in a deluxe room and it was lovely, it had a coffee machine, tea facilities and a large TV.
The shower was nice and hot (with no limiting of heat just a safety button) it also had great pressure.
The only slight thing that was a small issue was being on the 3rd floor the rain would drip from higher up onto the metal window/roof and it was quite loud, it wasn't enough to wake me but did hinder the my sleep as i struggle to sleep. This is weather biased and by no means an issue on the hotel. Just thought i'd mention it for someone like me.

+1
We stayed here for my 40th birthday celebrations. It was ace the room was lovely although the walls a little thin (didn't ruin our stay at all). Really good size and very clean the shower was great and spacious. The staff were lovely, they made my stay that little more special with some balloons and chocolates in my room on arrival. Luggage drop off is great you can drop all you luggage off in the morning and explore and return ready to check in. Tram stop a short walk away the number 14 takes you straight to the centre and its only €8 euros for a 24hr pass which is great value as it costs €3.90 for just an hours pass. There a great coffee shop just down the road called Coffee and bites. Highly recommend their full english breakfast!! Thank you The Lancaster Hotel for making our stay wonderful would definitely return here when we return in warmer weather !

We booked a room very last minute, but it was well worth the price. It was comparable, if not cheaper, than other hotels and airbnb's we looked at, but it went above our expectations. It was very well designed (thermostat right in the room, black out curtains, a safe for storing valuables), the room was clean when we arrived and the staff made sure to come in and tidy up, bring new towels, etc. when we were out for the day (unless we left a sign hanging on the door). The check-in and out process was quick and easy and we felt very welcomed by the staff every time we entered the hotel. The location was also perfect, it was far enough away from any noise, but close enough to the city center that you could walk or bike to all of the main attractions. It's also next to many amazing restaurants, parks, and a zoo! I would highly recommend the Lancaster and I would definitely stay here again if I return to Amsterdam.

The Lancaster Hotel is a nice place to stay. I stayed for 3 nights and I’m glad I booked in this place. It’s really easy to access, 20min on foot to be in the city centre or you can take the tram. Also, this hotel is in a quiet area which let you sleep peaceful but the walls are quite fine so don’t not be surprised to hear people early in the morning in the hallway especially if you aren’t a morning person... I’m a bit disappointed about my room. I booked a room and requested a double bed but the room I got was with 2 twin beds, I came with my partner and it’s a bit frustrated to not be able to share a bed with the person you love...

Dear leilani-n23 Thank you for your review. We also love our location! We are city center but this part is not as hectic as some parts of the center. I am sorry you did not receive a double bed. Can imagine this was somewhat disappointing. We try to honor bed type requests as much as possible, but sometimes it happens that we have more requests for twins or doubles then available. At that time we unfortunately cannot honor every request. We hope to see you again soon! Yours sincerely Marco van Esch General Manager

The location was ideal for us, being only two minutes walk from the family member we were visiting. The hotel was very comfortable and quiet, once you got used to the occasional bird noises from Artis Zoo, opposite. Our room had almost everything we needed and the beds were especially comfortable. We would to have preferred to have had ordinary cups for hot drinks in our room, rather than paper cups, which were not really suitable.
The breakfast room was particularly pleasant and the breakfast was excellent, with a wide range of fresh foods.

Spent two nights in a standard room and two nights in a premium room. The premium room is fantastic. Great proportions, immaculately finished with everything you need - iron, coffee machine, fridge, large flat screen tv and very large luxurious bathroom. The standard rooms are extremely small and not really practical for anything longer than 1 night quick stay. The bathroom is less than 1sqm with nowhere to put anything. You can walk to the centre of Amsterdam in 15 mins and there are loads of extremely good restaurants within 2 mins of the hotel.

Really impressed with the hotel, there was a few reviews that worried my wife but I can honestly say we had a really lovely modern room and it was exceptional value in comparison to the other hotels in the area. I will be staying in this hotel when I return to Amsterdam. The staff were really friendly and helpful I would happily recommend.
