One look at the sculpted facade of the NH Amsterdam Schiller hotel in Amsterdam, wrought-iron ornaments, and art deco embellishments and you'll know you've stumbled upon a place rich with history. Located in Amsterdam's bustling Rembrandt Square, this national monument embodies the essence of the Dutch capital.

NH Amsterdam Schiller, nestled in the heart of the city, is celebrated for its pristine cleanliness and modern amenities. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere and central location near major attractions are highlights for guests, though the bustling square can contribute to noise. While rooms are generally well-received for their upkeep, opinions on their size and noise insulation differ.
Guests commend the service, citing the cordial staff and thoughtful perks like drink vouchers. However, some have reservations about the hotel's value, pointing out unexpected costs and questioning the price-to-room adequacy.

Detailed Reviews
NH Schiller is a nice hotel that combines romantic art deco architecture in the lobby and restaurant with top modern hotel rooms, refurbished in 2020. The location is perfect with the lively Rembrandt Square and plenty of restaurants just outside the main entrance. All major attractions are within 20 minutes walking or 2-3 tram stops away. We visited both the Rijksmuseum area, the Dam square with the Palace and Ripleys, Anne Frank's House, ARTIS Zoo and the attractions around the Central Station on foot. The kids loved the hotel and with rooms on the third floor we did not hear any noise from the square despite the buzzling party atmosphere Friday and Saturday night.

+1
Stayed for 3 nights with a friend in a twin room.
PROS
Great location, tram line right outside, 20 min walk to train station, very central.
Lots to do in immediate vicinity with bars, restaurants and coffee shops.
Hotel is well presented, good Art Deco style
Rooms fresh and modern
Bathroom good size, big shower
Fridge in room
Nice big window overlooking the square
Good air con
Big wardrobe
Staff were excellent
Room was cleaned perfectly with fresh towels
CONS
Room was on small size but fine for short break
Free wifi was a bit slow
Square can be a little rowdy so if a light sleeper ask for room not on the front - this didn’t bother me
I would stay again and recommend especially for those visiting Amsterdam for the first time.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
We stayed for 3 nights and prior to arrival I requested a higher up room as previous reviews said it could be noisy so I appreciate that they obliged and gave us a room on the top floor.
We walked from Centraal station to see the sights but could have got a tram right outside the hotel at Rembrandtplein.
The room (602) was very good - big and spacious with a separate bedroom from a seating area with two wall mounted TVs. The only issue was that it was two single beds pushed together but not a deal breaker.
At this time of year I’d recommend a higher up room as there was a lot of noise from coffeeshops, pubs and a night club underneath the hotel, as well as an ice rink and Christmas stalls set up on Rembrandt square, the music from which was very loud but couldn’t be heard from our room with windows shut.
Room was clean and the amenities were very good. The mini fridge was very cold and chilled things quickly which was a nice surprise. There was a safe, full shower supplies, hair dryer, laundry service, tea and coffee and a bottle of water which was replaced every day if you get house keeping, which leads to the next point. The hotel provides free drink vouchers if you don’t have your room serviced that day which I really liked and have never seen at any other hotel - great idea.
We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment. There is a self service shop in the hotel lobby - very handy but very expensive (as expected) and sold drinks, alcohol and snacks.
Staff were very nice on check in and check out.

I was very shocked when I arrived at the NH Schiller with my partner to see that it was basically a construction site. My girlfriend and I had such an amazing experience at the Hotel last year that I decided to book it again as a birthday gift. We were completely disappointed that we weren’t contacted by the hotel regarding the renovation and that we would be staying in a different hotel. I was then completely angered by the attitude and arrogance of the hotel manager who had no patience for my disappointment. His answer to my complaint was that he could cancel the reservation and as I expressed my frustration he then turned to answer the phone for several minutes whilst completely disregarding my frustration. I have never experienced worse customer care in my life. I asked to speak to the manager and as he informed me that he was the manager for both hotels I thought that things couldn’t get any worse. He seemed so unapologetic and unmoved by the fact that we were exhausted by the travelling and completely outraged by the fact that we weren’t kept up to date about the change of events. I couldn’t believe that his answer to the problem was to cancel our reservation and leave us stranded in Amsterdam trying to find somewhere to stay. If we were given this information sooner or at the time of booking then we could of made other travel arrangements but I couldn’t believe that this was the response of the senior manager. I understand that both hotels share the same rating and that they share a similar location but for me there’s no comparison between the two hotels as we both found the NH Schiller to be much more luxurious and featured much better and nicer facilities. It simply isn’t good enough that we weren’t informed of the change as we genuinely would have booked somewhere elsewhere if we were aware of the change. We then went to the double room that I had booked to learn that my girlfriend and I would be sharing two single beds which was the icing on the cake for us both. I then asked to speak to a duty manager who was indeed very helpful and who managed to arrange a double bed (from the second night onwards). We were compensated with one morning’s breakfast and a bottle of beer but for me it didn’t justify the experience by any means. The entire event massively dampened our holiday and it wasn’t the experience I had booked nor had I paid for or the experience that we were looking forward to by any means. It was of course a case of false advertisement as we were told that we would be staying in a hotel that I hadn't booked! The experience and hospitality was the worst that I’ve ever had.

Hotel with ancient authenticity, very cozy, beautiful restaurant serving delicious breakfast. I was especially impressed by the helpful and friendly staff. The rooms are quite small, clean, it's good that there is a teapot, because in April the weather in Amsterdam is often not pleasant, it is still damp and cold. Hotels in Amsterdam are expensive. The location of this hotel is exceptionally good, central, next to the tram stop if you buy a public transport card.

We had a good stay highlighted by the hotel's great location on Rembrandt Square that featured countless bars and restaurants. We were also able to walk to all major attractions (none more than 20 minutes away) and there also was a laundromat within minutes of the hotel. The staff was very helpful and allowed us to check in quite early as we arrived before 10 am. The only negative was the room layout. It was actually quite spacious but had no dresser or drawers for clothing so unpacking was a bit of a challenge but one we could live with for our two night stay.

Steps away from all things Amsterdam centre, transport, restaurants, bars, shopping. Decent room with the basics for a one or two night stay, overlooked Rembrandtplein square. If you get a room on the square side on a weekend night, you will need the earplugs the hotels provides.

This hotel is very well situated in front of tram station and at 3 stops from main station. The area is pleasant and full of bars and restaurants. The staff of the hotel is very nice and helpful. The hotel is quiet althoug I recommend a quiet room to avoid noise from outside. We had a superior room (411) facing back of the hotel and we did not hear anything (there was national day outside with many people laughing, drinking, etc). The curtain was perfectly dark so no light could awake us. Moreover the conditioned air was working even with open window which is great. The only thing could be a little more care in doing rooms. The bed was made of course but the sheets were not so well stretched, it did not give an impression of bed well done. The dust was not really cleaned, the same dust remained on the floor the whole week. I suppose there is a problem of lack of time for the staff than a lack of cleanliness. Nevertheless, I would recommend the hotel.

This hotel is very easy to get to from the station with 2 trams that stop just outside. It is in a very central location so is good for exploring the city either on foot or by public transport. The staff on reception were very friendly and welcoming and will store luggage if you are early for check-in.
The breakfast was very varied and seemed to have enough choice to cover most dietary requirements. The coffee machine/tea station was the only place that seemed to form a queue and had a choice of non-dairy milks though no dairy milk there for my tea so I used the milk from the breakfast buffet area. The only decaf coffee was in a sachet but the choice of teas were excellent. There were mugs available as well as cups though these are quite small.
The bar is large enough to not feel crowded in the evening, even if quite busy, and there is a good choice of seating.
The bed was very comfortable and it was good to have a a choice of channels on the TV including a couple of English ones though I only used it to catch up on the news. The room was quiet though they did provide earplugs if you needed them. There was a choice of tea and coffee with a kettle but the only milk provided works best with coffee. The wifi seemed quite weak. it is quite pricey but a great hotel with an excellent location. I would happily stay here again.

Take whatever train gets you to Centraal Station in Amsterdam, then take the #4 tram to Rembrandtplein, which is the stop right in front of the hotel.
Yes they have lifts.
Additionally, it's very noisy in those rooms facing the front, the bars open all night long

There was some noise but it was not to bad but when we went we had windows shut at night. There is a lift but if memory serves me right there were about six steps to the room.
They have them nearby
