Just returned from Amsterdam last evening and wanted to share my experience being there. I flew from Manston (in Kent, UK) to AMS with a friend and took the train into Central Station. Easy peasy. Then walked to the Estherea. If you're reasonably fit and...More
I travel to Amsterdam quite a bit on business and have a couple of favoured hotels, they were booked out this time so I tried the Estherea on recommendation from a colleague and was not disappointed.

I tend to stay in more modern hotels so this hotel was such a fun change. It's decorated a little bit like your widowed aunt Esther's house, with wonderful colors, velvet, and lots of crystal chandeliers and wallpaper. It's incredibly cozy, clean and fun. Your...More

Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring
hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

We got breakfast included in the room price simply by doing a deal on the phone. Food was quite good but not excellent. For example the croissants were poor, lacking the proper flavour and consistency; butter and marmalade etc comes in those horrid little packets and jars which an upmarket hotel should not be using. Bread was excellent. Coffee is from a machine - Ok but you might have to queue.
