Located in the heart of the city, Hotel Estherea is housed in a row of historic buildings on the major canal. Behind the 17th century façade, guests find a warm welcome in comfortable surroundings. With its woolen carpets, crystal chandeliers and sumptuous furniture, the hotel is an oasis of tranquility in the middle of the bustling city. The Estherea first opened its doors in the 1940s. this family business is currently run by the third generation. Although the hotel’s comforts and facilities have been brought up to date over the past sixty years, the concept of personal service and attention remains unchanged. All 92 rooms have been recently renovated and are all accessible by elevator. Each room has its own unique character: a wonderful place to unwind a day of exploring the city.

Loved this little hotel. Superb room, very clean, pretty, confortable and well-appointed for a city hotel. location is perfect for sightseeing too. Staff are friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. breakfast is generous and delicious and we enjoyed the bar area ta night too. Would definitely revisit next time I go to Amsterdam.

Stayed 2 nights and actually slept well despite the rather "loud" wall paper design. I understand each room is decorated differently, so maybe others are more soothing. Bed was comfortable and shower had good pressure. Front desk is very busy and attendants are pretty informal in their interactions with patrons. We enjoyed the breakfast---don't forget to make your reservation the night before. We were not told to do so when we checked in, but were prompted to do so by friends that had arrived a day earlier.

Charming hotel! It's located right in the city center which meant a little more traffic than.we would've liked on Friday and Saturday, but fine the rest of our stay. Words can't quite describe how charming the hotel is, the attention to detail, etc. I've read some reviews that it seemed understaffed. They had plenty of staff the entire time we were there. The absolute best part though, was the bar. Alrhough everything was scrumptious, Leo and Thierry were true mixologists and just nice guys! They were so pleasant, charismatic, even helped us make a reservation, and recommended places to go and food to try. I found myself looking for them, they were so great! Hands down the best part of an already amazing hotel experience.

I had booked this hotel for a quick overnight on a long layover, wanting to be somewhere central and walkable to the Anne Frank Museum and the train station, etc. It was very cute and well-located. The decor is a bit over the top but fun - like you are staying in an eccentric older rich person’s house. It was also nice to have a decent breakfast included and free coffee, etc. The staff at reception seemed overwhelmed and a bit rude. Every time I passed by, they were openly gossiping and making fun of what seemed like reasonable requests from other guests. They acted like I was bothering them when checking in/out and that gave me an unpleasant vibe. The room was a nice setup but I couldn’t open my window shades or people could see in. Also, the AC was appreciated in the heat, but freezing and not easily adjustable. Overall I’d give it a 7/10.

This hotel deserves a 5* rating regardless of any slight cons. Our stay was comfortable, quiet and convenient. Very centrally located and convenient. It is beautifully, colourfully and eccentrically decorated , and it works. The public areas impress immediately. Everything is very clean. The beds are extremely comfortable. Do specify your sleeping arrangements in advance and note that if you ask for a twin room the bed looks like a double. The beds do pull apart, however, which made sharing much easier. The standard room is on the small side but there is plenty of storage space though large bags may need to be unpacked completely and left with hotel storage. The room boasts a Nespresso machine. The bathroom is a Good size in comparison to the bed room . Our room had the shower Inside the Bath. The shower was designed for tall people which was a plus for my companion. There is no grab handle in the bath which , as a shorter, older person I would have preferred. The toiletries are l'Occitane . Towels and robes very soft. The room was very quiet. There are many features designed for the hotel eg water bottles, nespresso cups which are charming but do offend green credentials as must be manafactured. The water was from Ireland! Just be aware that the standard rooms overlook atrium areas ( not really a courtyard garden but well maintained and designed ) so privacy could have been a bit of an issue as the rooms also have outside opening full length double doors ( not a balcony) with many rooms in close proximity. Just remember not to throw your curtains wide First thing until decent! Breakfast is excellent and plentiful. BE AWARE - your breakfast slot must be booked daily each and every day of your stay so book it the day before. We were not made aware of this at check in but, luckily, overheard another guest booking. Breakfast tables are allocated for 45 minutes but , if it is quiet, you are left alone. The booking system does make sense as the breakfast area could not possibly cater for 93 rooms at once. Even with the system it could get a bit chaotic. There just seemed to be one lady out front who did a sterling job, and bore sith some very rude guests with politeness and equanimity, but became overwhelmed when very busy. I think another member of staff would have been useful. All food was delicious . There is a buffet with cooked options, cheese, fruit and pastries . A wide variety of juices and, I think, even fizz. At other times the breakfast area operates as the bar. It is for residential guests only but we had no problem having drinks with a couple of friends not staying at the hotel. The cocktails are delicious but again staffing levels lead to slow service at busy times. Free juices, coffee, tea and pastries area available during the day which was very welcome when retreating from the heat. At busy times reception too seemed a bit overwhelmed leading to queues and delay in being attended to. Partly because the public areas are small for the bedroom ratio so could get crowded . I suspect the hotel is subject to the same staffing difficulties being faced in many places because staffing levels is the one thing that I noticed regularly as a negative. The staff team were all charming, however, from First email contact to check out. I am aware of some negative comments made in other reviews but I can only praise the team. One final comment - the hotel boasts 2 beautiful , calm cats. A lovely touch but be aware if you have a cat allergy as reception seemed to be their favourite place. I think Hotel Estherea could become my go to place to stay in Amsterdam when my budget allows. A wonderful stay as a treat.

I've lost track of the number of times I've stayed at the Estherea - another reviewer called it "adorable" and I could not agree more. I can't imagine ever visiting Amsterdam and not staying here. I have one minor quibble/observation to put to the management: I don't expect preferential rates, upgrades etc but, when I've stayed somewhere as often as I have here, it would be nice to at least have that acknowledged. Otherwise, keep up the great work. You are in my top three favourite hotels of the world.

Our family stayed two nights at Hotel Estherea and we couldn't have been happier. The service was excellent and very helpful, the buffet breakfast was very good and our hotel room was very comfortable. And the decor was terrific! One minute walk to a major shopping street, two-minute walk to the old city, and restaurants and bars in pretty much every direction. We would highly recommend it!

We stayed at Hotel Estherea from Aug 2-Aug 5, 2022. What a beautiful hotel. the lobby and sitting room were nicely decorated. Our room was clean and beautiful as well. The staff were all very nice and extremely helpful in giving us directions to where we wanted to go. Everything was within walking distance, some places, like the bus station, were a longer walk: 20-25 minutes. Most of the people we encountered were bilingual, so we did not have any communication problems. (Save for 1 unfriendly cab driver). There is a nice bar area just past the lobby. The bartender, Leo, was really nice and so enjoyable to chat with. We definitely recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Amsterdam.
