...I booked the small room (which was called something else when I booked, they have since updated their room names). This was NOT the smallest room on the website, either... After booking that room, I inquired about upgrading to the medium room that has a balcony... They apologized but said they are now sold out of that room and they aren't sure why it was never processed appropriately... Our room was a literal shoebox (hence why I wanted the upgrade because I was afraid of what was shown on the website was not what I would end up with)... It was like a cruise ship room... Our room wasn't cleaned properly as there was an empty water bottle behind the coffee maker at check in and hair in the tub... It was the smallest room I've ever been in and was definitely not 15-20 square meters like the website says... Again, this is what I was afraid of, and why I wanted the larger room...

...The bathroom was gorgeous and the whole room was cool except for the creepy eye decorations lol What makes this 5 stars is the staff and amenities. They have food and candy and coffee for you to enjoy anytime for free... They also have bicycles available for free!... It’s first come first serve, I only stayed one night but I stopped back at the hotel multiple times a day and there was always at least one bike available... The staff was so kind and helpful and I wish I could have stayed longer to really enjoy everything the hotel and city has to offer...

I researched just about every hotel in Amsterdam, and ended up booking this one since it checked all the boxes... After booking that room, I inquired about upgrading to the medium room that has a balcony... The common areas are pretty, the free drinks and breakfast are nice, but there were dirty dishes and glasses all over all the time during our 4 night stay... Right around the corner from the Museumplein you will find this lovely boutique hotel inspired with an Art Deco/Modern interior and furnished with a lift. The Jan Luyken is on a tree lined neighbourhood street where you can hear bells alerting you of a pending hour and the laughter of children playing from the nearby school.... The all inclusive breakfast, cocktails and snacks are most welcomed as one plans the day or relaxes after a day of sightseeing in one of the well appointed areas... ...This is the most wonderful hotel unlike any I have ever stayed in before. It's beautifully decorated and feels sumptuous but not 'overdone'... The library, sitting areas , outdoor area and kitchen are wonderful spaces to relax, play board games, read, eat, drink or just 'be'... The staff are always on hand to help with anything but never intrusive... The bedroom was lovely and decorated in a quirky and thoughtful way... Drinks and snacks were freely available at any time of day and the 'help yourself breakfast ' was plentiful... The perfect place for us to enjoy a short anniversary break and to thoroughly unwind... There is also a tram stop which will take you to the city centre in 10 mins otherwise it's a very pleasant 20 - 30 minute walk... The museumplein is 2 minutes away from the hotel... I highly recommend this wonderful hotel...

...Pros • It's a small-medium sized hotel so easy to get around and feels like you're there with the same familiar faces. • Room decor and bathroom are updated and have a good vibe, liked all the muted pastel colors and patterns everywhere you turned... • Everything felt very clean when I got to the room!... • Rooms have operable windows AND a/c so you can pick your path based on how you're feeling (a/c came in handy during some hot days)... • Breakfast and snacks in the food room downstairs were great and nice to have throughout the day... The access to public transport in every direction was stellar... You'll have to walk 10-15 in any direction to really get some options... • Like others have mentioned, it's on the pricy side for the size of the room and what you get (but everything in Amsterdam is expensive in the summer)...

I recommend getting the breakfast; there is a good selection of breakfast foods as well as an espresso machine... I also really enjoyed having a night cap in the sitting room off the lobby; again really chic and cozy decor... They were so friendly and helpful throughout my stay... The location can also not be beat: You can take the bus straight from Schipol to the hotel (it stops a block away!)... You are also a block from the Rijks Museum, Van Gogh Museum, etc etc... At the same location as the bus is the tram, which will bring you straight into the heart of Amsterdam...

A beautiful boutique hotel that my partner and I had a lovely time at. The hotel is located in a great place, with so many lovely restaurants, museums and attractions a small walk from it... The staff were nothing but helpful, and were great at answering any questions or queries we had... Although small, it had everything we needed, with a lovely bathroom and amazing shower, a coffee machine, and extremely comfy bed... Thank you to the staff for making our stay in Amsterdam so lovely...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel provides a wonderful breakfast, bicycles, umbrellas, snacks and beverages. The rooms and common areas are clean and the staff very helpful with anything you may need. Bring earplugs if you have a street facing room (we had construction going on but it's very quiet otherwise).

We’d stayed here before pre-Covid, and it lived up to our memory. Aside from the obvious benefits of a brilliant location, the staff are unfailingly friendly and professional. As a couple of people have noted, you need to take note of room size when booking. Our room was compact but comfortable and well-equipped. Let’s face it - when you’re in Amsterdam you want to be out and about, so we didn’t need a spacious room. There’s also a comfortable lounge by Reception, so if you want a relaxing sit down with a drink the option is there.

Dear Mr Kemp, Thank you for choosing our hotel for your stay in Amsterdam, and for taking the time to leave us a feedback. We greatly appreciate the five star review. Firstly, we would like to thank you for your kind words towards the staff. We go to great lengths to lend a hand to our guests whenever possible, and we deeply appreciate that our efforts are recognized. It it is wonderful you could take advantage of our location. Many guests choose to stay with us because of our proximity to some of the most well-know cultural attractions in the city. Nonetheless, the closeness to such an important tourist area does not affect how peaceful the neighborhood is. It is a pleasure to read you enjoyed the quiet aspect of this area as well. Once again, thank you for your kind words. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back at Jan Luyken Hotel. Kind regards, Maarten Benschop General Manager

This is an amazing property. You won’t regret staying here! Right location (quiet, close to museums, public transport) and very walkable to all major attractions. Beyond that it is a complete stay. Complimentary drinks (wine, beer, spirits) with a serve yourself bar. Great breakfast included. Pastries served throughout the day and evening snacks, meats, cheeses, fruit, nuts. Seriously you could just eat here and not worry about anything else. A real treat for us was the included laundry service which was excellent after a week of travelling. Exceptional staff, room was well appointed with king bed (we had booked a queen so this felt like an upgrade). Would absolutely stay here again when we return to Amsterdam!

JL over exceeded my expectations - the hosts, decor, look and feel, room and amenities were brilliant. The complementary food was an unexpected bonus, loved the homemade cake and cookies!! The hotel itself is very well placed for trams / trains as well as walking distance for most of the city. Only room for improvement was the windows are rather ‘thin’ and for our street facing room, we were awoken several times early morning due to reversing traffic and trucks passing.

Our team is very enthusiastic about baking homemade cakes and cookies for our guests, and we are happy you enjoyed them! We are also glad to hear that you found the hotel's location convenient, with easy access to trams and within walking distance of most of the city. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the thin windows; we are working on improving our soundproof measurements, so I would like to thank you for pointing this out. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, and we hope to welcome you back soon for another great stay. Best regards, Maarten Benschop General Manager
